I take it this isn't the right thread to find Maria fans...
I kind of like her.

The girls in the boardroom were so different when they came out and seemed to genuinely like each other. The others in the house were delighted when Maria returned so maybe she is not like that all the time.

I kind of like her. ![]() In short, she's trying to improve, and she is improving. And, as has been mentioned, it's clear the other candidates do like her. |

I agree. In the boardroom, when she's arguing, her eyes are constantly on Lord Sugar for his approval/reaction. She's a pitbull when she's cornered, plus her eyes are constantly rolling and the face is often pulled at the others. Proper 'Mean Girl'.
That said, she seems popular with the others, who are maybe seeing something we aren't. |

Maria is awful.
She's constantly pulling bitchy faces and getting all up in arms about Alice and Patrick not answering their phones was ridiculous. Once again she pushed a flawed idea (high prices) through and she was completely unprofessional in the boardroom. She seems to think she's a brilliant, cut throat businesswoman but in reality her ideas have been very flawed and she seems very petty, always trying to point score about bad organisation etc. even when she's completely wrong. |

She really is an aggressive angry young lady,,,,she is always looking to have a go at the PM at every opportunity during the task.

I don't think she is being legit. Its like she has watched previous series of apprentice and thinks being agressive and bitchy will get her far. Which is clearly working LOL
I feel its an act for the camera's. For her sake I hope it is anyway. |

I teach GCSE English language and we are currently doing the 'Spoken Language' unit, which consists of dissecting examples of spontaneous speech and identifying who is controlling and dominating the conversation and therefore more likely to have more of an impact on it and the other contributors.
Several tutors watched week 2 of the this year's YA and focused on the scene in the car when Maria was pushing Sean to go with her 'professional woman' idea for the cook book. We showed it to the students - they were flabbergasted at her rudeness (and they are her peers). None of them watch YA, so this was the first time they'd seen her or the conversation - but it took them seconds to identify the fact that she was determined to dominate the conversation and manipulate the others to her way of thinking. They particularly picked up on the fact that Sean made the phone call saying "I've decided that we're sticking with the professional woman brief" (or words to that effect) when he hadn't made any decision at all - Maria had! Sean was the stereotypical 'bend with the wind' person in that conversation - go with the last thing said or the strongest personality. He had no leadership skills at all, and Maria exploited that. She is rude, aggressive and her facial expressions really most unpleasant for someone of her age. I have daughters of, or around, Maria's age and they are no slouches when it comes to standing their ground, but they would never be rude in a Maria way - Maria will learn, eventually, that you can be pleasant and quiet and still achieve results and get more respect in business. Shouting does not equate strength! There are subtleties in the use of spoken language that Maria needs to learn and fast! If she was my daughter I'd be ashamed, and the fact that my students (who are no angels themselves, believe me) were shocked at her attitude and bossiness. They are not backwards in coming forwards, far from it, but they were shocked at Maria's antics! |

It's not good to be a doormat but I have noticed that if Maria starts a sentence she will always finish it, talking over anyone else if possible. If she has to listen she'll do the panto eye rolling and look of disgust. She will never listen to anyone else, anything other than full agreement is a fight to her, and she will not back down. I won't insult her any further as she is still young, but she needs to learn a lot. She's virtually at Jeremy Kyle guest level at the moment.

There is a bit in last night's episode where Alice says something like "Like David says, it's hard to manage the back end and the front end while controlling the in-between", but we never saw or heard him saying this. Obviously, the editing left it out. The editing would be made in accordance with the chosen narrative for each candidate. Alice the Quiet but Disconnected. Maria the Gobby Girl. Andrew the Underdog. David the Clueless. Patrick the Slitherer. And on it goes. Wouldn't it stand to reason that the editing would focus on Maria's loud moments while ignoring her quiet moments to keep the narrative of her consistent? |

Intriguing as I haven't heard of that unit before. Does the unit take editing into account?

I think most exam boards are doing some sort of 'spoken language' element in their English Language GCSE at the moment - we do Edexcel, but AQA and the Welsh board also cover it. |

You could, in theory, edit out Maria's supposed good bits. And I am very wary of the editing in The Appprentice, However what was left in is more than enough to judge Maria's entire character, and it is not good at all.

No, it's only intended that the students focus on transcripts of completely unplanned, spontaneous speech between, say, a maximum of five participants (otherwise it gets too complicated). The exam board provide some basic examples, but we are free to create/source our own as long as they are completely spontaneous and not 'scripted so as to appear spontaneous'. And they don't need to be long transcripts/conversations - a couple of minutes is enough. As long as there is someone who is 'in charge', who steers or influences the others to change their mind etc, then it is suitable. We figured Maria, Sean, Patrick and the sub-team in the other car fitted the bill perfectly as a 'training exercise'!

And as has been said, the bottom line in The Apprentice is always profit. Alice made a mistake not just buying the cheapest crap she could and shoveling it out gracelessly. You get no points for a good idea, good service or quality product - unlike what a real business has to consider if it wants to survive. |

Has she actually done anything worthwhile in any task yet? |

I was hoping she would push for the tea party to be revamped as 'for the modern, independent, professional woman.'

So aggressive, seems spoiled little madam. She comes up with rubbish ideas, bellows about it for a while and would totally grind my gears. Imagine working for her! The volume alone. Ugh.

Petulant, immature, nasty and stupid.
Doesn't she realise she's only on the show for entertainment purposes and that Sugar detests back stabbing gobshites like her. When she eventually gets fired, I don't think the words 'with regret' will be coming from Sugar's mouth somehow. |

Apart from what has been written on here about her which I agree with, what really gets up my nose about her is when she is faced with something she knows nothing about or doesnt understand what it is, she immediately disses it with a sneer, if she doesnt know it, according to her, it isnt worth bothering about, it isnt her fault but it is automatically the fault of the person, item or thing.
She didnt know what the Cutty Sark was, immediately the sneer happens, she does it a lot as she is not the quickest out of the box intelligence wise and it really gets my goat. If she doesnt know, look it up, if they dont have computers look it up in the Yellow Pages, it will at least give a clue. As for candlelarbrum......candellarbrum......and on.......give me strength |
