Adam Hunt anchored from the studio.

Fletcher was joined by a different guest for each quarter: Brian Murphy (reporter for the St Paul Pioneer), Mark Bruener (former Pittsburgh tight end), Alistair Kirkwood (MD of NFL UK), and Eric Perkins (sports director for Minneapolis TV station KARE 11). He was also initially joined by Dan Louw.

As usual they also have a live later game, Washington at Oakland. They are taking the Raiders radio network from Compass Media Networks feed with Greg Papa calling the game alongside Tom Flores and reporter Lincoln Kennedy.

Sunday 29th September - Absolute Radio 90s

NFL on Absolute Radio 90s with Adam Hunt (from the studio throughout) and Dan Louw (from Wembley Stadium during the earlier game, before joining Adam in the studio just before half-time in the later game)

American Football: NFL Week 4
Pittsburgh Steelers @ Minnesota Vikings (Wembley Stadium) - Darren Fletcher, plus quarter-by-quarter co-commentators as listed above (6pm BST commentary)
Washington Redskins @ Oakland Raiders - Greg Papa and Tom Flores, with Lincoln Kennedy on the sidelines (9.25pm BST commentary provided by Compass Media - "The Raiders Radio Network")

The Wembley game ended not long after 9pm so the two commentary matches haven't overlapped.

Meanwhile, there was no 5 Live Baseball on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra on the final day of the regular season tonight despite the American League Wild Card race going right down to the wire. Very disappointing.

EDIT: Apologies for duplicating most of the information mavreela has listed above, I didn't see that post when I sent mine through (which I had been composing slowly during the breaks in innings in the Los Angeles Angels @ Texas Rangers game from the aforementioned AL Wild Card race while watching the end of it on MLB.TV). I had originally thought that Darren Fletcher had been commentating solo, as I had only heard him on the fleeting occasions I was tuned into AR90s' coverage of the Wembley game. I had thought this was strange so thanks for the clarification regarding the summarisers mavreela.

Thanks for the info - is this a regular programme on Ab90s for the NFL season, hopefully all the way to the Superbowl, or just for the times (one more I believe) there is an NFL game in London?

5 Live Baseball with Josh Chetwynd and Erik Janssen

Baseball: National League Division Series, Game One
Pittsburgh Pirates @ St. Louis Cardinals - Mike Shannon and John Rooney (commentary provided by KMOX 1120AM - "The St. Louis Cardinals Radio Network")

At the end of the game, Josh said that 5 Live Baseball would be back on-air next Friday for Game One of the National League Championship Series, although he encouraged listeners to keep an eye on the show's Facebook page, making a point of saying that they were hoping to cover more games that have not yet been scheduled. I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to cover Game Three of the Pirates-Cardinals NLDS on Sunday, which starts just after 9.30pm BST, as there's no reason why they couldn't given that 5LSE's schedule is currently completely blank on that day.

The game was an 11pm start BST and was covered in full. Josh mentioned during the programme that they are hoping to do commentary on Game Five of the NLDS between Pittsburgh Pirates @ St. Louis Cardinals (coverage of which has subsequently been pencilled into the 5LSE schedule and EPG) and Game One of the NLCS, both of which are 1am starts our time.

Josh said at the end of the broadcast that 5LSE will be covering the decisive Game Five of the Detroit Tigers-Oakland Athletics ALDS from 1am our time tonight/tomorrow morning as well as Game One of the National League Championship Series the following day. Neither game has been pencilled into the online schedule yet and to be honest I'm wondering how they'll be able to accommodate them given that commentary on the practice sessions of the Japanese Grand Prix in Formula 1 have long been set for the overnight hours of the next two days. But we shall see, hopefully Josh is right and perhaps coverage of the F1 practice can go onto a secondary online stream.

There were no reports on the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe or the Super League Grand Final over the weekend. I don't believe they are carrying updates on the PDC World Grand Prix darts either.

*Going by Twitter, it sounds as if Jason Harris was covering this game for Talking Rugby and ergo his reports will have been carried by talkSPORT, who usually take updates from them on Saturday afternoon Premiership games. However I didn't catch any rugby reports during my fleeting listen to Matchday Live that afternoon, so as that show isn't on Listen Again this is an educated guess.

To add, the Cardinals Radio Network's Mike Claiborne contributed to their commentary on Wednesday night, joining John Rooney for a commentary stint during the top of the seventh inning.

I'm not sure if they've mentioned when the next 5 Live Baseball live game will be scheduled. There's nothing listed in 5LSE's schedule beyond tonight as I type this. Should the NLCS go to a Game Five on Wednesday, I think that would be a realistic choice of live games, given that it would start at 9pm UK time and 5LSE has nothing at all scheduled for that day.

Not long after I posted that, Josh mentioned that 5LSE would also be covering Game Two of the NLCS tonight from 9pm. And for the record, 5 Live Baseball covered the whole of last night/this morning's NLCS Game One despite it going into multiple extra innings and thus running into scheduled coverage of qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix.

I've been impressed with the amount of play-off coverage that has been available on Sports Extra, although I must confess I've not listened to any of it. Who is Erik Janssen, by the way?

Have they announced any plans as far as their World Series coverage is concerned? Will they be sending Simon Brotherton out there again?

Erik was the producer of Channel 5's baseball coverage throughout its 13 year run, with him appearing in front of the camera from time to time towards the end of its run when they were finally given the chance to do a few road trips. He's popped up on 5 Live Baseball on the odd occasion during the first three seasons of their MLB coverage, but with Nat Coombs more frequently unavailable (last night for instance he was hosting Football First on talkSPORT, which overlapped with their coverage), we've heard a lot more of him this year and I for one welcome his involvement, I think he's more of a personality than some of the other guest hosts/co-hosts they've called upon.

I haven't heard anything about 5LSE's coverage of the World Series, I don't think they've mentioned any concrete plans on-air yet, although I would assume they will be covering the whole series with simulcasts of the later innings on Radio 5 Live's Up All Night as in previous years. Whether they'll be sending Simon and Josh out to the States to do on-site commentaries (as they did in 2011 and 2012) or if they'll just be carrying local US radio commentaries (as they did in their first full season in 2010), I don't know. Like you, I have been impressed with the number of live games they've broadcast from the Division Series and Championship Series rounds of the Playoffs so far.
