Mine missed Emmerdale again last night.
Still set to wake up 05:00 to 05:15
Set it to record Angelina Balerina this morning at 8:15 CH5 and it failed to record even though it powered up. So that's 3 hours after the auto power up and it still doesn't work.
Beginning to think the only way is to stop it shutting down completely.

Paul try a factory reset, I did one after the upgrade to 1.0.16 (I generally always do this) You will have to make a note of your recordings and re-instate the power timer. I won't know till later what happened last night but the box looked to be recording OK.

Repassac did you do a reset after upgrade ?

After the recordings failed I cancelled the planned recordings for both Voyager and Strictly t2 and then set them again, so if it was a new Crid code for Voyager that should of sorted it.

CBS Action haven't changed Voyagers Crid codes on the G1 EPG, now on the 6th series !

Can't turn my box on to check but it's in the settings menu somewhere (If the box was recording when you looked it won't be there). If no one else posts the actual menu route I will post after I wake the box this afternoon.

Thanks, it was probably recording then, I'll have another look for it later.

I turned off the wake up timer last night and set a couple of CBS recordings. The first at 2:50 it didn't record and the second at 9:00 did record.

Left the box in standby until 13:00 to see if it would record Olympia, it woke up but didn't manage to start recording.

Just done a factory reset.

Looking as though Paul is correct. The box woke up as expected to make the 12:35 recording. The rec icon didn't come on till the follow on programme started.

So at a guess the wake up and the daily series recording of Breakfast saves the day without it the first recording of the day fails if it's after an unknown time delay (more experimentation needed ). Not woke up the box yet so can't be sure what recorded yesterday evening. Waiting till the box shuts down.

This box sounds like an absolute nightmare! I've been holding-off buying one, waiting for FreeTime to offer 4OD catch-up (not fussed about C5) but it sounds like there's a lot more work to do just to get basic functionality working as expected.

I was pretty surprised to see Humax release a firmware update just before the busy Christmas period -- from what I can make out there are a lot of busted boxes out there right now.

Why does it seem acceptable for manufacturers to rush a product to market then expect Joe Customer to debug their flaky code and suffer lots of problems whilst patiently waiting for updates? Has Humax been bought by Microsoft?

Not quite that bad. If you are prepared to put up with a slow, clunky EPG, lack of an instantly accessible "Favourites", and the need to set an early morning programmed wake-up, then the box is actually very good in respect of the quality of picture both live and recorded.
I have to admit ownership is frustrating, almost every day you find another irritating bug or senseless omission.

If people really get wound up with the faults or in the future.
It looks like Freesat are to blame.
From the outset they have messed up from design all the way through.
What is the point in complaining to a company this useless?

Instead go for the companies that own Freesat.
The BBC and ITV own it = it is a joint venture as they like to call it.
I would advise contacting the BBC Trust and see what happens.

I do not know if Ofcom would care, who knows but if Free Satellite collapses / people can not use it, is a big deal due to the squeeze and pressure over the coming years on freeview (freeview channels may be reduced or even scrapped in the future = ofcom is investigating the idea + public opinion since people want better wi-fi and mobile broadband etc..).

And of course Trading Standards / BBC Watchdog?

well after haviung the power on/off set i decided to do a test recording and set the timer for this morning and yep it taped, so my next step is to remove the power on/off and set another recording for tomorro morning and see if it works....

It does seem to be a common theme now that products like this one and the offering by Samsung have very little testing done before they hit the high street stores.

I'm also glad I did not bother buying one, plus I would have wanted the 1G version.

Still got the 05:00 to 05:15 wakeup set.
Set a recording for 08:00 this morning and another for 09:00.
The 08:00 was not recorded, planned was updated for the next.
09:00 was recorded.
Looks like the fix is to series link a program I don't want to watch so kicks the box into aciton later in the day. Will see if all is sitll ok tomorrow.

Repassac suggests setting autopadding on start times only. Early days but his first days test seems to have worked.

I'll see how my test goes first before trying removing autopadding.
If i removing autopadding from the end time then I've got to allow time for a program overrunning. Just wondering if this causes more problems than it solves.
Other option is to shift the auto power up time to before the 1st program starts and power down time around midnight.
Hopefully the next software update won't be too far away, assuming that it actually fixes anything.
Would still be nice to see a list of fixed items because so far they're well hidden.

well switched power on/off timer off and what do ya know didnt record, altho i have my freesat thru a network switch so i know when the box is on or off, i assumed was recording cos the switch light for the box was lit, when i check the recordings it isnt there so clearly its waking to record and somehow staying on but not recording...

very frustrating as is only since the update for my box....

The box does wake up at the appropriate time, if you look carefully there's a tiny rec icon on the display when it actually records. I have a usb cable with pretty leds in it plugged in. This makes it obvious when the box wakes up.

Yes since 1.0.16 but the previous version had similar if left for several days in sby.

Day 2 - BBC ONE HD Breakfast recorded OK.
2 Mins start padding seems to do the trick

First recording Breakfast pretty sure worked, next not till 19:00 with 2 mins pre padding hope to see rec icon at 18:58.

Box wakes up a little before the 2 mins prepad - looks longer than just required for the reboot.

I misunderstood what you meant by "setting autopadding on start times only".
I thought you meant leave that set to auto, but you mean set fixed padding of 2 minutes ?
What happens in the following situation :
BBC recording 19:00 to 20:00
ITV set for a program at 19:00 to 19:30 and then 19:30 to 20:00
What happens when it reaches 19:28 won't it want to record the 2nd ITV program because of the 2 minutes padding ? If so what happens to the end of the 1st ITV recording ?

Yes start padding of 2 mins - end of Auto.
In your example the lead padding will be ignored.
