The Disney Channel is in the early stages of developing a*Boy Meets World sequel series called Girl Meets World, TVLine has learned exclusively

Sources say that the cable network is trying to land*original series stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel to revisit their roles of sweethearts Cory and Topanga, who married before their ABC sitcom ended its seven-season run. The new series would center on their preteen daughter.

Good idea or bad idea?

Well i used to love Boy Meets World and if they get get Cory and Topenga back then that would be great. I'd probably watch even though i'm some way off it's target age range!

Probably a bad idea really, buy my childhood excitement is clouding my judgement and I am, instead, excited at the opportunity. Boy Meets World was a great show and a part of my childhood (although I was watching it a few years after it originally aired), so it would be interesting to revisit.

'The Wonder Years' was far and away the best US series dealing with adolescence and should get an airing more often imo.
Stuff like 'Scrubs' and 'Friends' has been repeated to death and are just lazy scheduling choices.

Definitely. Boy Meets World was perhaps funnier, but a whole lot less serious and meaningful than The Wonder Years.

It's such a shame The Wonder Years is never likely to be released on DVD due to the licensing costs for all the music on the show.

I'm in two minds. I suppose they should leave well alone, but the idea of Corey and Topanga being in it does make me think it could be quite good. That is, providing they manage to get the scripts right.

I never really liked Boy Meets World - I think I was too young for it at the time and got no interest in watching it now because will probably be too old.. Unless they can get the original stars back, they should leave it alone.

Mustn't forget Mr. Feeny. Surely they could ask him for at least a cameo?

Topanga was one of my young teenage dream's actually forgotten about her until I saw this thread. looking her up on the web seems she still as hot now.

Might have a look at the new show if she on it as the show was ok.

Funny how all the star's of the show really never became big movie star's but that's Disney for you.

^He took a break from acting, interning in DC and also studying at Standford. Hardly Disney's 'fault'.

Well good for him it's always better having education than none. There has been many Disney/Nickelodeon teenager actor's/actress's show where they hit fame at a young age then suddenly you never hear of them like in ten year's time. Seem's Disney/ Nickelodeon kinda kills all their creditability when they leave the nest. To be fair I think Nickelodeon are worse than Disney for that.

Also Danielle Fishel is Studying at California State University for psychology .

If they can't get Will Friedel for occasional cameos then I don't see it working. You gotta have big brother Eric in it

but there've been many that have made it big time (britney, christina, justin, selena gomez, demi lovato, HSM cast etc etc etc)

Disney does have some influence in furthering their careers I suppose. Look at Hillary Duff. She was probably going to be huge, but the contract dispute meant she's sort of disappeared. Now that is partly down to the Mouse canning the show, but I guess other studios were reluctant to take her on after it.

Another example could be Ricky Ullman (Phil of the Future), I was expecting him to become a big star after that show but he's sort of gone into obscurity these days. Now is that Disney's fault or could it be his agents? I'm not sure.

If this series does go ahead and Ben Savage does sign on, I suppose it restarts his TV career and who knows what comes from it. Look at the likes of Neil Patrick Harris, although he did other projects, it wasn't until he did 'How I Met Your Mother' that he started becoming a prominent star again.

Comingsoon.net reporting that both Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel have officially signed on for this new series.

And some more info..

The new show is said to find Cory as a seventh grade history teacher, echoing qualities of William Daniels' Mr. Feeny on the original show. Married to Topanga, the pair have a 14-year-old Son, Elliot and a 13-year-old daughter, Riley Matthews. The latter part is the series' central protagonist and is now being cast with the following character description:

"Indelible personality. An adorable girl on the cusp of whatever comes next in life, and wanting to rush into it head first. She is fiercely loyal to her friends, and spends most of her time juggling the obstacles that life throws her way... There is no obstacle in this girl's world that can dampen her bright spirit and eternal optimism."

Boy Meets World fans, meet your Girl: EW has exclusively learned that 11-year-old Rowan Blanchard will play the daughter of Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) in the Disney Channel spin-off of Boy Meets World, titled Girl Meets World.

I was always puzzled as to how the writers came up with the name Topanga. It turns out it's a place in California.

Definitely!

Unsure about this. Loved Boy Meets World as a kid but I guess as long as Cory and Topanga are in it, it could be worth a watch.
