Let's carefully analyze the songs that were performed tonight in terms of chart performance. I apologize for any incorrect/absent data in this research, I did it out of pure curiosity.

So let's check tonight's "Number Ones":

"Hung Up" (Madonna) - Number one in pretty much every European country except Ireland (Louis' band "Westlife" was No.1 that week, how ironic) -- This one is a true No.1

"Love Story" - Number 1 in Australia and in 2 Billboard charts (Adult contemporary and country, not in Hot 100) -- A strange choice for "Number Ones" week.

"You Get What You Give" - Number 1 in Canada and New Zealand -- Again, strange for a "Number Ones" night in XFUK.

"Don't Speak" - Number 1 in lots of different countries, including the UK -- Fits the theme.

"Firework" -- Number 1 in Canada, USA and New Zealand -- Acceptable, but not a Number 1 in the UK.

"Dynamite" -- Number 1 in the UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Canada and Australia -- Fits the theme

"Listen" -- Number 1.... at Nicole's house and in Atlantis, maybe? -- This wasn't a Number 1 hit ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD and it was sung for "Number Ones" night??

"All By Myself" -- Eric Carmen's version was number one on the Cash Box number one singles (second-grade Billboard that published charts of song popularity in the USA), and Celine Dion's version in both Canada and USA Adult Contemporary charts (not in the main charts) -- Not a real No.1 in any way, shape or form.

So for "Number Ones" night in X-Factor United Kingdom we only had 3 songs that reached number one in the UK, one other in the USA, a fifth one in Australia (?!), a sixth one in Canada and New Zealand (double ?!), a seventh one in some minor Canada and USA charts (big WTF?!) and finally a song that didn't reach number 1 in any country (?!*%&#?!).

What the hell is really going on? Where the producers so busy dealing with what might or might not have happened to Lucy that they forgot what the theme was? It looked more like "Canada and New Zealand number ones night"....

JOKE.

I only recognised half the songs. A theme like number ones, you expect it to be full of songs everyone instantly recognises.

Wish Dermot would announce the theme at the start of the show every week. We shouldn't have to find out from Xtra Factor.

The themes don't make any difference any more. It started a couple of years ago, and Louis pointed it out most weeks, and got ridiculed for it (Louis and his rule book was the joke of the series). None of the judges stick to it, so they may as well just be rid of the themes.

I think they should get rid of themes and, let the contestants choose their own song and their own theme.

I’m perfectly fine with them choosing songs that are number ones in other countries, as long as they don’t call it "UK Number Ones". If I were an artist, I’d be thrilled to have a number one on ANY chart. They’d all be valid to me.

"Listen" was on an album that reached number one. It’s a stretch, but that’s probably how they would validate it.

I said this last week that it would stretch to assumed number ones from any country in the world
