Hi,

I'm looking to change my line rental and broadband from Sky to O2 and they're telling me that I'll need to pay a reconnection fee to take the line back onto the BT network.

The problem with that is that an engineer apparently needs to visit my property (to do what??) which they can't schedule in until Dec 17th.

Is there really nothing I can do to speed that up. Surely the switchover at the exchange can be done before then?

Sky don't know their a*$e from their elbow. That's why I switched to Plusnet & Freeview instead.
Call your new broadband/landline provider & see if they can do all the switchover their end ?

The best thing you'll ever do is leave Sky.
Been there,wasted hundreds ££.Never again !

Sorry, I should have clarified that it is the new provider that has advised me all of this.

The best way to check is go on the BT website like your placing an order then when you get to the appointment diary it will tell you there the earliest date ur line can be transferred then click on cancel order

Yeah I had to pay a reconnection when I changed from SKY to Talk Talk as it was going from one LLU to another LLU. I know that when I moved from Talk Talk to BT I didn't have to pay as I got free connection. O2 must be charging you as it looks like that are going LLU. They only say that a Engineer has to visit is in case there is any problems at your end that they find, most times an engineer doesn't appear, unless it is FTTC that is installed the same day as well.

I just changed from Talk Talk to Sky both LLU and didn't have to mess about with BT. It was a straight transfer and we were only offline for about an hour while the changeover took place.

This sounds like incompetence by O2!!! - there should be no need any longer to reconnect to BT. The likes of PlusNet and TalkTalk (for examples) can do a direct line transfer from Sky.

There should be NO need to have any home visit either - unless you have Sky Fibre Broadband perhaps.

I went from TT to Sky in February and was not charged a connection fee.

No one has in that direction - this is the reverse which SOME ISPs seem not setup to do so easily!

It always used to be easier to go from Sky back to BT - but others seem to have got the hang of it. A few months ago a test go on the PlusNet site told me I would need a new number - recently it says that it is OK to keep this.
