I've decided to invest in a turtle beach and after days of going through all the different ones available and the reviews I've decided on the x42 but are they as good as they are cracked up to be?

I bought a pair X41's last year. I um'd and ah'd over it for weeks before taking the plunge. It has been the best gaming accessory I have ever bought.

If you play online, particularly shooters, either on your own or with friends they will give you a bit of an advantage as you can here exactly where a noise, like footsteps, are coming from. I use them with Battlefield3, MW2, Halo4 and Gears3. I also use them now when I'm playing most games such as Forza or Skyrim. Chatting is very good too.

The only problem I have come across so far is the odd crackle which I found to be interference with other wireless devices so make sure you turn any unwanted tech off to avoid this.

In summary, highy recommended (X41's). I'm sure the X42's will not disappoint.

Do they fully cover your ear? They look like they would just sit onto your ear.

You could just buy x12s and save yourself about 70. The difference is minimal. If its just for COD and the like the x12's are fine. I have owned several pairs and nothing more then the x12 is needed. You will still hear the enemy sneaking up behind you.

I own X41's and they have become an essential part of my gaming experience, I own a home theater but since moving I'm not really able to use it due to my working hours and my neighbour's so the headphones are so important to me.

The most important feature when buying a set of gaming headphones is comfort, I cannot emphasise that enough (even over sound quality if need be), you want your ears to sit inside the cups so there is nothing resting on them as that will grow painful over time. I can wear X41's all day long if I choose and forget they are on my head. The sound quality is also excellent, however there are a number of precautions you should take, as with any wireless device to minimise interference.

The X42's look nice and I was going to buy some earlier this year but I read they have shrunk the size of the ear cups since the X41' so canceled my order. If I could get to try them on first that would be nice but in all honestly I am perfectly happy with my X41's. The PX5's are also a great set of headphones (same spec as X41) but also feature bluetooth for PS3 and extra sound presets.
