O.K. so he won, i am not a big fan although he can sing and did well to win the show.

I am not into slating him or any of the they all deserved to get where they got and it was entertaing for weeks.

Now its the end, so where does Steve go from here??

To be honest I cant see him coming no where near to Will Young.

Which sector of the public does he appeal to, I am mid 30s, and I dont think I would buy his tunes yet I have Wills album, maybe its just me who knows?

Will does it for me unfortuntely Steve does not.

On a positive note I wish him the best of luck as he done really well to win the competition, and there is enough bashing going on at the moment

Will is an established artist now though, so it's tough to draw comparisons. I know that although I wanted Will to win, I never thought in a million years I would buy one of his albums......I'm going to see him in concert on Friday.

Will is amazingly popular now, but he wasn't so much immediately after he won (obviously with the people that voted for him, but not critically). It wasn't really until his second album and Leave Right Now that people (myself included) started to take him seriously.

So let's see how it goes with Steve, there's no point in making predicitions or comparisons

My mum is desparate to get hold of Steves single...she is a spritely 65......she also liked G4. (other stars she likes are Russel Watson, Rod Stewart, Elvis and erm Daniel O'Donnel ) So in answer to your question.....who is Steve going to appeal to? my Mum for one and she can't wait to part with her brass!

I voted for Will and for Steve as they both appeal to me
but Will IMO is the best singer with the most distinctive voice

I thought Steve was a deserving winner last saturday, much preferred him to G4

But now that he has won, he should do the decent thing and go away, like all the other pople who have won reality TV shows should do.

I don't find either of them particularly exciting but out of the two I'd go with Will. I agree that his voice is more distinctive and he has certainly proved that he's a reasonable songwriter.

Seems that he's maybe mellowing down a lot more with his latest material. My daughter (aged 30) saw him last week and said it was too mellow for her now and she got a bit bored.

I've got a feeling he may be going whether he wants to or not.

Sorry, but there is NO comparison.

Will (despite being much younger) has a more mature and sophisticated sound than Steve, not to mention the fact that he seems to have lost the stigma of being the winner of a RTV contest.

Steve has already been mouthy with the journalists (not a good move), fluffed lines (then blames it on anything but himself, except when he likes to say "it's the pressure") and generally hacks off a lot of people.

I'm not all that keen on either, but I can see the similarities. Not vocally, but in mannerisms and they both seem to take offence at negative comments. Steve's attitude to Sharon and Louis reminds me to Will with Simon, but with the volume turned up a bit. Will had a few diva moments with the media in the early days too, but I think his management were more sensible by not putting him in the spotlight too much until he'd got the hang of the schmoozing.

How can you even mention S***e in the same breath as Sir William Young is beyond me?

I read that Steve was booed off stage at the Christmas Top Of The Pops. He also fluffed his lines again and just to think all those who voted for him. It's now three time he has knackered that song up. G4 wouldn't have done that. Anyway Steve is just a poorman's Will Young.

I take it this is just yet another Anti-steve thread right? Don't you think there enough of those already? Isn't it time to move on?

no - I don't think this was intended to be anti-steve. If someone did a 'Jon G4 Vs Will Young' would you be upset about that one? Perhaps people are getting a little bit defensive...

No this is not an anti steve thread, I was comparing the two.

Any hint of not loving Steve is seen as slagging him off read the thread and see what I actually said!

It was pretty obvious that this was going to be full of "Steve sucks, how could you even compare him to Will Young" posts though wasn't it? Was that not the whole point in the thread if your honest?

Why not compare him to will young.

There both won reality tv show

Simon Cowell is there manager

They are both male vocalists, with similar songs which have been sung.

The whole point of the thread was to compare the two and see who will still be around in a few years.

You cany blame me if this forum does not have many Steve fans, I can take him either way!

Simon Cowell does not, repeat DOES NOT, manage Will Young. Will Young has very wisely kept as much distance as possible between himself and SC, and has thereby been able to make his own choices as to the direction of his career.

<rant over>

Right, comparing the two, I think it is highly unlikely that Steve will have anything like the success that Will has had. That is not a criticism of Steve, Will had the benefit of being the first, and he has set the bar incredibly high. He also gives the impression of being very strong-willed (see rant above) and having confidence in his own judgement. Whether Steve is such a strong character, I don't know.

Ok point taken but are you a Steve fan?

No, I'm not a Steve fan. He just doesn't do anything for me. However, I don't begrudge him his win, and I do feel sorry for his fans as WY fans had to put up with much the same from Gareth Gates fans nearly 3 years ago.

I agree with you about Will. I went to see him last week and I was a bit disappointed to be honest. His theatre tour in the summer was much better. This tour was very mellow. Maybe this was the direction he always wanted to take, he was just taking his time.

I voted for both Will and Steve, I can't compare them yet. We still have to see what Steve is going to do. But I do have high hopes.

I am the same I dont dislike him far from it but a fan no.

Yes he won fair and square, that cant be taken away from him.
However wether he goes the distance is another matter.

I wish him lots of luck, as all this negativity around him before he has even began cant be good for business.

It may be possible that many people switched off from the programme sooner than expected with the favourites (tabby and ro) voted out, so he got the older vote, who knows?

If I remember right, there was as much negativity around Will when he came out. We were told we had been conned etc. etc. He got through it Steve may do the same.
