Does anyone use this? How close to Windows 8 is this? I downloaded it and a few things arent too clear

1) The search function that I believe is supposed to search programs and apps actually searches the web

2) When I load Internet explorer I see no way to minimize it.

3) I can get firefox on the Metro UI or whatever M$ want you to call it now but I can't get Chrome to show up.

I think thats it for now. Computer is having a tantrum so kinda focused on that at the moment

You'd have to provide a link, but this is probably just a skin?
If it doesn't give you access to the Windows Store Apps then I don't see the advantage?

Of course you maybe really like the look of Windows 8? Personally I think it's a definite step backwards from Windows 7. In terms of looks that is.

If you want Windows 8 I presume you know that you can upgrade for 25 at the moment?

I installed Kubuntu Linux on one of my PCs the other day, and you can get that to look more like Windows 7 than Windows 8 does. First time I've ever been able to say that a current Linux looks better than a current Windows.

Well in some ways that looks better than the real Windows 8, with the aero glass theme.
I can't offer any help with it though. Not sure if it's a well known site or not?

There's another one here called Omnimo that works with Rainmeter, if you don't have success with that one.

Now if someone could come up with an aero glass theme for Windows 8 I'd be happy.

Yeah, to get that one to work.

The one you've got looks good though...if you can get it to work the way you want.
The real Metro apps are full screen only in Windows 8, so there's no chance of minimizing them.

Had a play with Win 8 Yesterday , Can't for the life in me think who this new dumed down interface is aimed at . With a app in full screen if you do the old alt + F4 you go back to some thing that looks like the Win 7 desktop !

Bet you in a few months there will be skins galore or even a Microsoft pack that will allow you to run Win 8 but with a Win 7 interface .

Go in to the bottom left hit the start screen and start the messenger program you are using and have it on either the left or the right of the app you had open.

to be fair though when you are surfing the web you tend not to be in the metro environment, as i type this i can see the minimise, maximise and close icons on the top right of my browser just like they always have been

I wasn't quite correct in saying they are full screen only, because you can have two Metro apps (or Windows Store Apps as we now have to say) on screen at once. One occupying two thirds of the screen and the other one third.

But generally you just open one Metro app on top of another, and don't worry about how many are open at once, because Windows manages the memory usage and keeps the ones underneath in a sort of suspended animation so they don't use much resources.
There are exceptions to that such as the music app, which keeps playing in the background.

Obviously if you're in the desktop part the programs act just the same as they do in previous windows, so Windows 8 has a sort of split personality in that respect.

I've no idea how these transformation packs work to try to replicate the functions of Windows 8. Or perhaps they just replicate the look alone?
Perhaps they just give you Metro style tiles on the desktop, instead of icons; which is not how the real Windows 8 does it.
