James Arthur - listen but don't look.
I cannot stand to look at this man because I find him repulsive and watching him singing is like watching a wooden puppet being worked by an inept puppeteer pulling the strings, but if I look away from the screen what I hear isn't half bad. He's got one of the best voices in the competition, it's the sombre face and body gymnastics that put me off and make me want to turn off the TV.
Maybe if he just stood there, with his eyes open, and sang then he would be more appealing? Less of the jerking around like someone with locked limbs? He has talent and of that there's no doubt but please!! Keep flipping still!!! |

I can't look or listen. He can't actually sing. And his 'emotion' is like watching and hearing someone losing control as they have a nervous breakdown.
I think several of the acts - Jahmene, for example - have difficulty with control and are bordering on hysteria when they perform. |

I've tried. My ears just ask me, why in tarnation is this badly-acted groaning and slurred wailing being passed off as music?

Elvis always used to feel the music in his body and the performance came from that centre - which is what we're getting with James. Singing a few notes in tune is not enough to be a real singer.

The poor bloke seems demented to me. I don't rate his voice either.

I think he's a great performer and it's nice to watch him emotionally connect with the song. His flawless vocals are just an added bonus.

I'd rather listen to James than Same Direction or Nice but Dull Ella to be honest.

I feel the same about most of the remaining contestants actually. I can't bear looking at Jahmene. Christopher gives me the screaming ab-dabs. James Arthur is so unprepossessing it's unreal. Rylan just makes me want to hurt myself. I think this is what's been wrong with this series - these people have got to have the looks/charisma to go with the performance and they just haven't.

Whether you find someone attractive or not should be completely irrelevant (listen to music - eyes are not required), and also it's just bad manners to bring it up. Your manners make you uglier than James will ever be.
My personal opinion is that he doesn't sound very good either. He just wails through his performances and it grates on me. He's coming across as a one-trick-pony, yet I did like it when he did the cover of Sexy & I know it so I know he does have talent. |

Could someone enlighten me who may have been to the show live what exactly are the judges hearing with regards to James.
Their comments on Saturday about him changing it up every week had me gobsmacked as he has been doing the same thing over and over. I am also beginning to believe that all these guest "mentors" are fed lines by the producers the amount of them all saying James ( I know his supporters use this as evidence that he is good but I just don't believe it). I just don't get him. He is miserable (put intense) and his grimacing (put "passion") are just turn offs and listening to him is just painful. |

I don't mnd seeing a performer who puts their all into a performance. It doesn't bother me what he looks like - it doesn't bother him because he is lost in the music and is un-selfconscious. We have become a bit too used to the type of performer who is more conscious of looking pretty than the music itself - I say it is a good thing that we have a real musician in the competition and not another pretty boy.

His vocals are far from flawless, but he is a very good performer and a few mistakes dont matter at all.

He's one of the best vocalists ever on the show imo. Not far behind Leona Lewis.
Oh well horses for courses but if the sound of someone flailing themselves with a cat-o-nine tongues and their insipid yelps of pain beats Leona then I must never listen to music again. |

I can't bear to observe his intensified expressions of pretension or his emotional and uncontrolled breakdowns which are simply tedious beyond belief. His vocal techniques as I have mentioned several times are 'incoherent' and 'flat'; likewise, he can hardly sing in tune at all. Seriously, who would even be tempted to buy his records?
