Get the Nexus 10 with pure Android. The TouchWiz Android on Samsung devices is bad (imo)

Touchwiz maybe bad, but I dont see that as a reason for not getting a samsung device. Loads of people say it, I have never understood why...it is a stupid thing to say. With android if you dont like touchwiz, install anyone of a number of launchers available in the market (some are free), and you will never have to use touchwiz again.

I maybe harsh on you (for which I apologise), as you have an iphone, where this kind of flexibility is not available. On android, if you dont like something, install something else.

It's obviously not a stupid thing to say because you agreed with me that it was bad. There is an option to change it, but you shouldn't have to. The installed software should be good, and for me, TouchWiz isn't.

Also, if you get the Nexus you also have things like getting the latest software right away and not having to wait months like you do with some Samsung Android devices.

I would say getting the Nexus - you get the best of both.

I didnt agree with you that its bad. I said "Touchwiz maybe bad". I havent used it in anger to say one way or the other. However whether touchwiz is good or bad is surely a personal preference. You may not like it, which is fair enough, but others may love it.

I dont quite agree with your "you shouldnt have to" logic either. I certainly wouldnt have held of buying my S3, just because of touchwiz (assuming for arguments sake it was total rubbish). I knew I could change it, so why would I let something like that stop me from buying a Samsung phone? The installed software may not be to your liking, but its not the end of the world. I am surprised with your logic, you bought any apple product, as with them if you dont like something, tough you are stuck with it.

I agree, having a nexus device would mean you get updates quicker. Which can be a good or bad thing, depending on the quality of the releases. Thankfully with google they are generally very good. However if you are (a vast majority of android users are not) into rooting/flashing roms, then this is also a moot point. As you can the latest software, as soon google release it (or within a few days).

I can see why some people get annoyed having to wait months before their carrier provides them with Jelly Bean update, however that is something you accept when you buy a non-nexus device.

If I do get the Nexus 10, it will be my first Nexus device. Whilst I root my devices, I am not sure I will gain much from the main point of having a nexus device...the very quick update. As I can get this anyway. However I am still looking forward to getting one (as long as its as good as it seems on paper).

Here’s fly to go in the ointment. Tesco are selling the Samsung Tab 2 10.1 for £238-00.

Plus another £50 cash back from Samsung.

I will be selling my Galaxy tab 10.1 for £150. Seems like I am getting a good price for it.

£188 is a decent price for the tab 2. However in comparison to the Nexus 10, it is miles behind. If you are in the market for a top-end tablet, then the tab 2 wont feature.

Better make it quick before the buyer stumbles on this thread or takes a glance at UKHD.

I have just sold mine for £200 including a Tucano case.

I am about to buy an Asus TF300t and hate Samsung with a passion. They don't bother updating their devices (such as claiming the Tab 10.1 can't run Jelly Bean)...

Must admit it's a pain when they won't upgrade to that highly advanced OS known as Jelly Bean.

Definitely agree. Touchwiz is horrible, it adds all these unnecessary features and those ugly wannabe iOS icons everywhere. Google Nexus is pretty much the Android elite. Cutting edge hardware with the latest software. It's a win-win tbh.

The updating doesn't really bother me, as I root my devices. Thus I can get the latest OS if I want it.

Have you thought about the asus transformer infinity? A very nice tablet.

You might get the latest OS but it tends to be buggy and not quite as good as getting it on a Nexus device.

It will be interesting to see how the new nexus lineup will shape the Android market, as I can't understand what benefit there is for any non nexus android hardware now.

First off most people wouldn't have the first clue what you're talking about. So just don't have a preference for naked or not.

I actually rather like touchwiz but the interesting thing is the money. Google will get money from such as the appstore so will always be able to sell them cheaper.

It depends on which flavour you download. You can get a pure ROM, the one released by google. So it should be ok. However since I have never used a pure ROM I cant really comment on how bug-free it is.

I would agree, getting a download from google, would be the best way.

Did anyone order one? When I checked the 16GB version was available, but I am after the 32GB version. Never saw this on sale, however I only checked a couple of times during the day. Got up this morning and saw it marked as sold out. When was it on sale in the UK?

I never got an email for the 32GB version, did for the 16GB version though.

Thats strange, I checked in the morning around 10am, then again at around 1pm, and then finally around 5pm. Each time they had the 'Notify me' button. Checked today, and it was marked as 'sold out'.

When I checked in the morning and lunchtime, the 16GB was available to buy i.e. the 'Add to cart' button was present.
