How is the show actually filmed?

I've never been before and I'm always curious as to how it is all put together. For example, does Tess go through all the couples to identify who is in the dance off at the one time and is it just broadcast in 2 separate bits of the show. Normally we see the first batch of safe couples, then up to Claudia, a guest slot, then back to save the rest of the couples, back up to Claudia etc. I imagine they would film it all in the most efficient manner and then splice it all up in the edit. Can anyone who has been tell us how it is all done?

The elimination section is indeed filmed in two sections, just as seen on TV. The whole programme is pretty much filmed in the order you'd expect, except for the guest slot, pro dance (if there is one) and some links. Of course, since they have the luxury of being able to edit, if either Tess or Claudia messes up a link, they can simply re-film it.
