Favourite: McDonalds.

Yes, I know, but there's usually one nearby, I know exactly what I want, the kids know exactly what they want and they will eat it. And we can be out of the place in 30 minutes and on to the real reason why we are in that part of town. I know its not the most healthy, but if we only eat there half a dozen times a year what is the harm in that?

Much rather eat there than in one of those pretentious places where the menu is all french and I come out more hungry than when I went in.

My son wants us to Nandos for his birthday - the only time I will go. Horrible place! The menu is so booooring...

Best place? Love Zizzis
Harvester (great for family meals)

Worst place - Nandos!

I think what would really work in this thread (Restaurant PR people, hello!) is some free vouchers of some sort for those of us here in this thread that don't like your chain. Perhaps you can persuade us?

Frankie and Benny's and Harvester is OK, Wetherspoons is pretty awful, but I suppose you get what you pay for. Their chips they serve with the burgers are quite nice
Havent been to a Pizza Hut in years, but do like those Gourmet Burger places though theyre quite expensive.

I like Gaucho too. I wasn't a steak girl at all until my first visit to Gaucho!

Favourite: Wagamama
Least favourite: Pizza Hut, Nandos

Best:
Pizza express and Nandos.

Worst:
Pizza Hut. Its a shame but its almost like they have just gave up, the food is terrible.

Living in N. Ireland we are seriously lacking in chain restaurants compared to England.......I miss over there

Best: Pizza Express and Nandos for me too. You know the food is freshly made to order rather than microwaved crap.

Worst: Wetherspoons and Frankie & Benny's which IS microwaved crap.

Most chain restaurants are pretty miserable .Luckily living in London we have so much good independent places to use, but many towns out of London seem to have nothing bar chain restaurants. The likes of Cafe Rouge really are dreadful, I can only think people who enjoy the food here haven't had much experience of eating out in good restaurants.

There are some good chains though. Wagamama is reliable and the burgers at Byron are decent. Busaba Eathai is pretty good, as is Wahaca.

In terms of pizza - most the chains are rubbish. Pizza Express is really mediocre, as is Zizzi. Franca Manca is only a small chain, but excellent quality.

Oh Byron, I forgot about them. Yes their burgers are one of the best I've tasted, partially because of the way they're all cooked to order, how you like.

The Wahaca near Covent Garden is superb. Haven't tried the one in Bluewater but its only 15 mins away from where I live so I hope its just as good!

I really like Nando's, we've one near work & we go for lunch at least once every couple of weeks. Quite like Zizzi's too. Not sure if the Olive Press is a chain but that'd be top of my list as well if it is.

Worst ones for me are Gormet Burger Kitchen, so overpriced we went when the local one had 40% off food, was still over £10 for burger, chips and a drink and weatherspoons which is just horrible.

Millions of people like Nandos, just because you don't doesn't mean it's overrated.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Strada and Cote. I think both chains are owned by the same group and offer Italian/French meals at good prices. Cote in particular is excellent value for money with really friendly, no rush, service.

why so defensive? and name me one chain with the menu in French. I am struggling to think of one (part from the usual French suspects like Quick!)
