A few weeks ago, a friend mentioned they'd been to a restaurant in London where something called beef bacon was being served and that I could try it out as it was halal.

I'd never heard of such a thing and it sounded made up but today I came across this: http://www.halalbeefbacon.co.uk/

So it looks to be a pig bacon (using that term just so this post doesn't become confusing) substitute for those who can't eat it but might like to find out what it's like (which is a discussion point in itself!).

I didn't know there was a part of the cow that you'd be able to get something as thin and delicate as these strips seem to be. I've never seen it in the shops.

So, what I'm going to do is order some from that website, and cook up a meal with it. I'll try to take some photos and report back on how it went as some kind of review.

If you asked me to think of beef bacon I would think of brined/cured/smoked beef.

You've got Italian bresaola.
American deli style pastrami and corned beef.
Beef jerky.

So to me beef bacon would be a variation on a theme of those products.

OP needs the meat to be halal, not just that they cannot eat pork.

I've had beef bacon in Dubai. Tasted very nice, a bit tougher than pork, but a good substitute.

There is no substitute for a few nice thick rashers of smoke or maple cured back bacon. This thread is just wrong and it makes me sad.
