Yes that's right, it's being recorded sunday afternoon. I don't know if there is a thread on this or if its even worth mentioning.

It's because he has a strenuous dance routine to perform at the same time...

He sounds exactly the same live anyway. So it makes no odds

I think when they mean pre recorded he is singing live in the studio at another time and then the video is shown on the night

At least the audience will get into the studio sooner!

They always prerecord guest acts. They usually do the song/dance twice before the show starts, though sometimes they are recorded on a different day.

They don't 'always' pre-record.. remember when Whitney's dress started to fall off?

Actually I've never thought about this...you must be slightly disappointed if you go to a results show where the majority, if not all the guest artists are pre-recorded, you're literally just seeing a group performance and then the results then.

A question for anyone who's been or knows - do they play the pre-recorded guest performance out for those in the studio to watch?

Not really. There's gonna be a different audience!

At BGT the VTs were played on the screen on the stage so I guess it would be the same at X Factor, although there's random production people setting up the stage at the same time!

I think that kinda makes sense, this is the first time so far this year they put 3 guests on the same show, was wondering if they were gonna scrape the group performance.

I hate Ed Sheeran's music. Since when did he dance around on stage? I thought he stood with a guitar and sang songs about baby bumps. Shudder.

Wasn't Taylor Swift recorded the day before she appeared on the results show a couple of weeks back?

What`s that got to do with him performing on the show?

I assume it`s their schedules clashing with other appearances etc... not that they simply can not be bothered to show up and do it "live"

When you see acts playing "live" on shows like Graham Norton and Jonathan Ross they're often miming playing the instruments to a recording they made earlier that day in the same studio - but the singing is live. No idea why they do it this way, I assume it's the programme makers that want it.

That reminds me, there was talk many weeks ago of a special pre-recorded performance taking place. Most people thought that it would be Adele performing the Skyfall theme song. As this hasn't happened, do we know what it was in the end?

Because someone said he had to be pre-recorded because he was moving around a lot - but whenever I've seen him he just stands there.
