BIB: I agree with this - the law is the law. But the law doesn't affect that Christian has a strong bond with Yasmin - he loves her like he would love his own daughter - she is his daughter to him, that's the way he feels. He can't help that. And Syed has disregarded that bond, not even thought about it, acknowledged and appreciated it, just made a decision without even consulting him - maybe no selfish, but just plain unthinking. Just my thoughts on Christian's POV and why he might be upset
But yes to what you've said.

What a grim prospect.
The absence of any discernible acting ability doesn't enhance things either. Sometimes even the most average actors however can 'get away with it' if the characters are good. I thought Nigel Harman was a great actor. The best on EastEnders? No. However his character had charisma and he bought the screen to life just be his screen presence. This is why the viewers loved him so much. With Joey, I feel nothing. I'm not melting at the thought of him going gaga over his cousin and I can't bring myself to be 'interested' in him or this 'complicated' relationship that he has with Derek. It feels all very scripted, like EastEnders bought into this character, moulding him into a specific type of character, with a specific kind of formula, that has always worked so well in the past. Nothing is organic or natural about his characteristics or development. (Sorry about the Joey rant on the Chryed thread )

I agree with your Joey rants Katrina!
They really are trying to make him like Dennis and make him and Lauren another Shannis. And they are failing epically. Only one more week of having to watch EE, thank goodness! |

Oh god this. I find the actor and character a slight improvement on the goon brothers but still, he hasn't sold anything to me.

Zainab thought everyone appeared to be happy with the fireworks and dancing girls etc but when Masood said 'maybe you should ask Syed' she reacted as any mother would and probably would have had M mentioned Tanwar instead. |

![]() Yeah it was totally unfair. Masood mentions that something is wrong with Syed, what was she meant to do, just say 'oh is it.....meh ' ?! She's his mum for goodness sake! Masood's jealousy really is pathetic.

the thought of him getting in, is quite frightening
![]() it really is, i hope we get a good Masood/Syed scene. I firmly believe Masood and Zainab between them have helped to make Syed who he is and it's why I can't hate him too much, even now. Virtually every mistake he's ever made was in order to please or impress his parents - even the first time he stole money from them - it's never been about greed or arrogance in the way we'd normally understand it. His life over the last few years HAS been dominated by Christian (he sometimes looks such much like a child at the side of Christian in terms of age and height etc ) and his strained relationship with his parents and of course a lack of apparent friends didn't help. With far better writing, his ONS with Danny could have come across 'better' than it did in terms of motivation. Christian has the right to be hurt and angry but he needs to get past that hurt and anger if he's to understand why he did it. |

I doubt we will at this stage, there's too much to resolve between Chryed.

I can't see Syed and Masood resolving things.
However it's a shame that we never got to see that father and son relationship explored because the father and son dynamic has always been an interesting one. However BK never cared enough to see it through. I also think it's quite sad that Syed has made to be not only the villian in the story with Christian but with his father too. It's quite easy for the average viewers to forget how horribly Masood has treated Syed in the past, not just about his sexuality but him being him. That doesn't excuse Syed's actions though and truth be told, I'm having a hard time understanding how both his parents could forgive him so easily... but looking at everything in a larger context, thier are deep flaws from Masood which have effected Syed's self-worth. I'm can't buy into his parents being responsible for his actions though. Syed is a grown man and responsible for his own actions and had every opportunity to come clean, confide in them or even Christian but chose not to. He even had the chance to change the morgage payments when the morgage advisor came by but out of pride, went against it. EE have done everything in thier power to make Syed look like the wrong in everything these last few weeks and that's exactly what they've achieved with this current plot-driven storyline. If EE went there with Syed, they could have done alot better job with making him look sympathetic and desperate. Instead he has at times, comes across rather carless about it all and that's not the Syed I know. .I think I'd rather have had Syed sleep with Danny for money because at least then I could understand how desperate he was and it simply being a means to an end. Bring on next week and I can take a long break from it all myself. |

I can see EastEnders trying to replicate Dennis's breakdown scene when Den died - even if Den was far, far worse of a father to Dennis than Derek has been to Joey.
I just find the character such a clique. At least Sean, who I could see EE was trying to fill the Dennis void with, had his own back story and psychotic tendencies. Joey on the other hand really is a poor mans Dennis Rickman, just without the horrifc childhood. The fact that he looks like Dennis, has daddy issues and to fall in love with his cousin, the mirroring couldn't be more obvious. ![]() CONGRATS BUTTERCUP!!! Well done, you clever thing! Quote:
