I dislike the boyfriend references though. They make me on edge.
He's talking about being a boyfriend to a girl.

"Show him who's boss. He loves dat."
Oh my

Poor Ste. He must miss him everyday

It might not be a dream sequence, it might be a nightmare sequence, Doug's nightmare.

I'm only kidding, please don't hurt me.
Hmmmm

I assumed James was talking about Emmetts legendary respect for women with that tweet.

Nice is one of those words like "fine"

Not that there's anything wrong with Doug. They're just not suited.

Ste's passionate. He knows his own mind, him. Lusty

What does gentle lover even mean though ? Soft slow rutting and butterfly kisses?

Oh Ste. Not fair.

Haha! I'm sure he treats them better in reality than with his tweets

Oh, I don't know, Ready. I think there's plenty wrong with Doug.

You know, I love that it's canon that Brendan and Ste have amazing sex.

I know you do

But I don't think there's anything wrong with him sexually. I don't really get where the idea that he's scared of it or doesn't like it comes from.

He and Ste just aren't compatible in my mind.

"With Brendan, I always envisage that they have amazing sex"

Always. He's always envisaging it. Always. Envisaging.

But I don't think there's anything wrong with him sexually. I don't really get where the idea that he's scared of it or doesn't like it comes from.

He was very worried about it at first, hung up about Brendan and Ste ripping each other's clothes off, and rattled by Brendan undermining him. But I agree, I don't think there's anything wrong, apart from him being with the wrong man. I know a lot of people didn't see anything sexy about Bruglas, but I really think it was, and a big old Alpha who was going to show him what's what and not take any nonsense, was a much better match for Doug.

Ignore me, I'm being mean.

Well, I try not to give much thought to it, but I don't think he's a naturally sexy character. That's probably where the perception comes from. But it's all very subjective, isn't it?

I just find him awkward and lustless, Ready. Sorry. And he doesn't look suited for sex either, it's hard to describe.

I'd've taken the occasional face-holdy romantic slow kiss with Lynsey, but that's about it.

I think that's perfectly natural though. I don't think Ste immediately being comfortable with having sex with a man is any better - just different.

Yes, I love that dynamic, even if I don't like the ship. I'd love for Doug to be with someone a bit older, who would bring out that side to him.

Ignore me, I'm being mean.

Aw no, most people think the same.

I agree. I don't think he is either. Definitely not in the way that Brendan is.

But maybe that's just down to the writing sometimes and the portrayal, rather than what he's meant to be like. I wouldn't say he's a "sexy" character, but I wouldn't say there's anything wrong with him in that way either.

I think it was natural too, Ready. He was facing having sex for the first time with a man and trying to work out who he was and how he felt, and he knew Ste had this history with Brendan. Leaving aside the mess of a story, being freaked that he was suddenly gay even though he'd apparently always been gay really ever since Tommy and the hat (god what a mess it was) I really don't think there's anything wrong with not diving straight into bed if that's how he felt.

I think the whole thing wasn't helped by the way we seemed to be getting virginity storylines coming at us hard and fast for months, and this felt like another one of those.

Exactly Sarah. I found a lot of Doug's coming out story badly done - the Tommy story as you say, and the smiley badges. But I completely understand him being scared about sleeping with Ste, especially considering he had to follow Brendan, who oozes masculinity from every pore.

I still think it was a mistake to make him gay, but I can buy now that people in their early twenties, or later can realise that they've had feelings that they've repressed. It just wasn't entirely believable for his character.

And talking of the other virginity storylines, I'm forever bitter that they didn't mention Deena with George and Ryan.

We all have different opinions about it, so fair enough!

I think there's loads of potential with the right guy though.

He's had what, 5 months having sex as a gay man though. I'm sure Doug's meant to be portrayed as sexual in his relationship by now.

The character is physically PJ, so I have to think it's him. Another actor in the role, and it'd be different.

And that's fine. Some people just aren't 'sexy'.

That was a shocking omission. It was staring them in the face as a perfect reason for George to have issues around sex, and it would have been a great bit of continuity and a respectful way to follow up the Deena storyline which they put so much into. Instead the only point of it seemed to be to show that Phoebe was insecure about him having anyone new in his life, but that was never really followed up either. Baffling.

Yep, never thought about Doug having sex, never want to think about it.

I never really got the chemistry everyone else seemed to get from him and Lynsey either.

I can understand the repressed feelings thing quite well- maybe it's not exactly the same but I went boy-girl-boy-girl-boy for ages with my sexuality/gender expression but I always knew that 'girl' was very wrong. I've literally only settled on the 'boy' and finally made peace with the fact that I can't change who I am for.. well, less than a year, even though I've always known that I'm trans. And I'm 19, nearly 20, so about the same age. I think if there'd been more of a build-up, with hints early on, then maybe I've believe it more, but Doug wasn't introduced as a gay character.

Plus, we say all this, but look at Ste. He was always gay (as, technically, was Doug, as people don't 'turn' gay) but there were no hints of it at all before Brendan (if I remember correctly). Because it's fictional, unless they know when they introduce a character that they are gay or are going to have a gay plotline (like Brendan), they have to invent stuff to make it believable (e.g. Ste had Callum, Doug had Tommy). So I don't know. I'm a bit torn.

But I agree that Ste and Doug aren't really compatible or believable as a couple... I've always felt that they were a bit mismatched. I think Doug needs a badboy. As I've said before. (Also, don't kill me for this, but I disagree with the PJ-isn't-sexy thing. I think he is, but Doug needs someone who's more.. I don't know, quite unlike him in terms of personality and looks. Ste and Doug are very similar. If he had someone else, not necessarily alpha-male but different to him somehow, it might work better).

Well, at least we can all agree that Brendan and Ste together are the sex.
