G4 are unsigned - Fact :)

“From Radio 1 News

'The X Factor' losers G4 reckon they could have a career like Beyonce's.

They're still being managed by Louis Walsh and want to put out an album, but they haven't signed a deal yet.

A further spanner in the works is that under 'The X Factor' rules, they're not allowed to release anything within three months of winner Steve Brookstein.

But, bass voice Matthew says whatever happens they'll stick together:

"We're going to continue as a group - I don't think the group would ever split up."

"We may go and do our own thing, but we'd be perfectly happy with that."

"We might do a Destiny's Child and disappear, have a solo career and then come back."

"That would be great, but at the moment we're G4 and we want to see how far we can go with it."”

Ok - not fact - just rumor but no different than the G4 have signed stuff.

Just wanting to get a different point of view on the forums.

That seems more plausible to me, munta.

And before anyone says anything, this is not because I don't want G4 to do well or get a deal or release singles or indeed want them to fail, couldn't be further from the truth.

I just take everything Louis says with a pinch of salt, the whole "my deal's better than yours" thing was a bit cliched and predictable anyway!

And anyway, they still have to follow the RULES!!!

Agreed, although two reputable news websites did report it as "fact" - one would hope they don't go around broadcasting uncorroborated stories. However, I imagine if it was entirely false Sony would have issued a statement denying it.

Wait and see I guess...

Every manager says a big deal is in the offing to try and get other labels to take notice. What suprises me is how the desperate have clung to this as gospel.
Well I suppose every one has to keep faith in something but Louis walsh is not the messiah he's a naughty little boy.

I'm not sure how these shows work, but isn't it always the case that the winner gets the first chance to release their stuff first and then the other artists follow?

I'm sure G4 will do extremely well when they get the opportunity.

Why would sony do anything it's standard practice to big up your acts.
If sony sued everyone who said they were close to sigining with them, they wouldn't need to sell records they'd make all there money from litigation.

If I was in G4 I wouldn't have signed anything on Monday afternoon. I would have wanted my solicitor to go through the contract very, very carefully before I committed myself to anything that major and it couldn't have been done that quickly surely?

Every Manager may say several Record Companies are chasing an act to sign them, but they don't NAME the Record Companies, what may have had happened on Monday is am "Form of Agreement" will have bene signed with Sony, while Music Lawyers work in detail on the final contract.

I don't see any DOUBT that G4 will get a Record Contract and will be succesful long term.

Exactly. A contract takes time to be drawn up and then passed to the management team/lawyers where it has to be scrutinised and any differences resolved between the two parties. This can take a number of weeks. Only when both parties are happy will the final contract be signed. So Monday`s meeting with Sony Music will have been for provisional talks prior to the drawing up of contracts. I would imagine they would haved stipulated no more press coverage until contracts are signed.

contract or no contract, whats really important here is the massive fan base of these guys--even after the show has finished!!!!! though i think a contract will be a crowning glory to their achievements--the thing is even after x- factor is already over, people continue to talk about and support G4! though we G4 fans know in our hearts that the guys deserve this more than anything, it should not be THE focus. Lets be comforted by the fact that with talent like that, a massive fanbase, a great manager (well you cant discard the track record!), a deal is inevitable!

You know when you're having a drink, and you laugh, and it comes out of your nose?

I think the 'disappear' part would be quite apt though. Having to listen to them trill their way through Creep, singing it in absolutely no context at all, and butchering the originals feeling, was bad enough without them sullying it more by releasing it.

You really think this 'massive' fanbase will last any longer than Michelle McManus' 'massive' fanbase that she built up on Pop Idol?

What the hell am I doing here....

Agreed.

I am in no doubt whatsoever that G4 will be signed by someone. With Il Divo having shifted about half a million albums since the beginning of November, record execs are bound to be on the lookout for "Popera" groups with which to try and emulate that success, and what better than to acquire one which has the advantage of umpteen weeks of primetime tv exposure and a ready-made fanbase?

What I am less sure of is the likely timing for release of their material. The tendency is for the runner-up to release as soon as they are contractually able, and obviously their fans want to get hold of their music as soon as possible and would welcome this, but I don't think it would do G4 any favours. A rushed, cheapo cash-in album might be acceptable to the die-hard fans, but it won't attract the wider music-buying public, and without their support G4 will go the way of every other failed reality tv artist. Il Divo might be cheesy for some, but their album is very polished, and as a package they've been two years in the making; if G4 are going to carve a space in that market they are going to have to take their time and think very carefully about their image and their material because if they get it wrong it could go pear-shaped alarmingly quickly.

If I were a fan, the earliest I would want to see an album from them would be next autumn, with the possibility of taking advantage of the Xmas spending spree as Il Divo have done this year. Much sooner than that and I would be very suspicious that the company they'd signed with was only interested in cashing in from the residual show hype rather than turning them into a long-term project.

I think fans of rtv acts have to be very careful what they wish for....

Totally agree smileygirl. Dont really want to see an album from them until the autumn of next year but a single would be nice before then.

Might be nice, but is it wise? Lemar took nine months from the end of Fame Academy before he released his first single, and that seems to have been a very good plan. Personally, I think G4 need as much distance from the X-factor show as they can get - the further away from that Britney cover the better!

lol. I loved the Britney cover but you could be right. They do have the tour in February though. We will just have to wait and see.
