To be fair, Emzy, I don't think you are the sort of 'littleun' that SR was referring to! (And if you like the idea of sitting in a grand venue and feeling posh, you KNOW I'm going to take you to an opera when I'm well
)
I do think it's a good point, the young ones who mainly love G4 because they fancy Jon or whoever might well find an opera programme too much. On the other hand, a lot of these fans will probably be the more fickle ones anyway, who will move on to the next reality tv 'star' in time. G4 need to target the more 'long-term' audience.
That said, I do think it would be a shame for them to move soley in an opera direction at this stage. I think they should be aiming for as diverse a repertoire as possible, and I believe one of the lads recently said that this was the plan. I hope so, as I think it is in this that they will find the most success, and indeed the most enjoyment. G4 suprised people throughout the show. How many people on here said they couldn't possibly pull off Creep, and then said afterwards that they loved it?
Is there any reason why G4 couldn't put on different concerts? Sometimes with a classical programme, other times with more variety etc? They don't need to stick to one or the other, surely! And the same goes for albums. I agree that their concerts are always going to be of a sit-down nature rather than a jump about and dance one, but I don't see why this would work against them.
I also think that G4 potentially have an audience out there who don't watch the X Factor.
I guess it's too difficult to say until we know what Louis has in mind for them, what direction they will move in etc. Personally I'd like to see them do a lot in their original style, focusing on close harmony etc, some similar to on X Factor, with backing tracks, lighting, a bit of 'flash' and drama, perhaps a couple of show tunes and definitely a bit of opera and with an orchestra. A concert that combined all of this I would definitely go and see
At least, that's what I'd do with them if they were mine
!
