I just got my hdr 1000s today and already I think I have found at least 4 new bugs

1) if you manually configure hard wired ethernet, the dns settings do not stick/save, as soon as you leave that screen they go back to 0.0.0.0

2) In the tv portal on screen keyboard - there is no way to enter the + symbol - it is not listed - so that rules out logging in with any accounts that have + in the username or password somewhere

3) Pressing back in the Media Share screen does not take you back to the humax menu - it takes you all the way out.

4) Media share menu has no way of refreshing it or giving it an ip address if your server does not show up - I can get mediatomb to show up from my old foxsat, but not any other dnla servers from my phone - twonky, ice or samsung nearby devices.

Any ideas? anyone else able to reproduce these issues?

5) the mis-leading system information -> signal info screen that shows no signal on one of the tuners unless they are both doing something.

1. Mine has a static setting without problems - perhaps it is your settings. I was chaning the gateway address and set the DNS to the routers address..

4.I think it is a DLNA server - twonky shows up well on my foxsat. Are you sure the others are DLNA severs and not just clients? You should not need to enter a ip address - the local network should be seen.

5. It is thought that the unit only powers used tuners to conserve power. Which transponder do you think the second tuner report when you look at signal level - if not in use?

1) I have tried multiple times, but everytime it resets the primary dns field back to 0.0.0.0

5) i expected it to show the signal strength for the default freesat transponder, like on the old menu - otherwise how else are you meant to see whether both inputs are working/connected correctly on the box?

1. While I set an Gateway address - I did not change the DNS (leaving it pointing at my router - (so using my ISP's DNS) - that persists. I can confirm that - However you are correct that trying to set a external address directly is not saved. I had obtained a DHCP address to start with - this setting remained when I changed the gateway.

3. If you have not entered it that is so, If you select it so that it becomes full screen then it returns to "Humax". Can't call that a bug really.

4. Strange, I see all DLNA servers on my Network, ISP Media centre, ISP server, Windows Media Player, Foxsat.Twonky.

5 There is a message at the foot of the screen saying two tuners - When you display two active tuners they can and do display quite differing signal levels depending on each transponder.

Thanks for confirming No.1 and 2, no. 4 I will do some more experimenting tonight, but there is no refresh/rescan facilty there.

No.3) I was selecting it so that it becomes full screen and then going in to it and it didn't return to "Humax" when I pressed back - I will double check this again tonight.


No.5) that message at the bottom of the screen is inaccurate, when I first installed my box upstairs I only had one feed available and it said the box was running with one tuner, when I took it downstairs where I have 2 feeds available and connected them, it still said the same thing. I was then thinking there was something wrong with the second feed, when actually it was perfectly ok.

The only way I could get it to say at the bottom that it had two tuners available at the bottom was to do a factory reset and go through the set up again.

So something is not quite right there.

No. 4 - It is simple to exit and come back in (Did this once when I forgot to turn the foxsat on) .

No 5. That is the way the Foxsat works - cables are only detected at reset time - following this presence is assumed.
I think not powering unused tuners is a good power saving idea but I suppose they could turn it on when in system info. However might get questions why is the signal level is different on two cables.

Humax do look at these forums so I am sure your posts will be noticed, I doubt however if any of these points would be seen as priority items.

I double checked this last night and it does this regardless of whether you go in to the full screen humax menu

Update - today it is showing the dnla servers from my phone just fine - but maybe in the future it would be helpful to be able to also search by IP incase your media server broadcasts are nto making it through straight away.

You can see that this is causing lots of confusion in loads of threads, because people like my self assume that it is like the old foxsat in behaviour for checking that you have two signals.

6) New issue - some times when you come out of watching videos in media share, it randomly turns subtitles on.

It has done this to me a few times now - easily fixed by by pressing the subtitles button - but annoying.

Out of interest why are you using a manual ip? As you will have noticed the HDR-1000S is reluctant to offer one. Do you not have a dhcp server on your network/router? If you do the preferred way to to pre-allocate the ip as an address reservation of the router.

Re 4 and 1 can you explain what you have on your lan please, I am interested is why you could not see the phone yesterday - I presume if was connected by wifi to the lan?

4) The galaxy s3 phone was connected via wifi and I had not made any changes - maybe the twonkyserver software was still indexing my phone the first time I tried. I have found out there is a known issue with current firmwares of the galaxy s3 and "nearby devices" not starting - something to do with it scanning the sd card and locking up, which is why I loaded twonky on to it. As a side note it is not playing the audio of videos from my phone though, but I have only tested a few videos so far.

1) Originally when I setup the box I had it in a different room from the router and was using an edimax BR-6258n in station infrastructure mode to connect it wirelessly using the lan port, but the edimax did not pass on the dhcp requests (which is why I manually configured the ip settings)
Things have moved on now and the box is now in the main room directly connected to the router.

I have also since worked out how to fix the edimax BR-6258n to pass on the dhcp packets properly. My old humax is now in the bedroom connected using that and using raydons firmware and mediatomb happily streaming the recordings to the new 1000s box. Sweet!
Roll on Humax enabling the 1000s to act as a media server too then we can hopefully do the same in reverse in the future.

My interest in this stems from my past when I was a financial software designer.and frequently had to prioritise both problem reports and change requests (some funded). Further development was also funded via a license fee. The direction was always towards the greatest user satisfaction.

The glitches that you mention (while I agree with some of them as imperfections) are of very small impact (in terms of users who might notice a problem).

So what would be your development priority? Server development, increased CODEC support for the client or the resolution of such (fairly small) items. All may come in time.

I sense from your replies that there are some (perhaps many) aspects of the HDR-1000S that you like "happily streaming the recordings to the new 1000s box. Sweet!" but I do not see the positive balancing the negative?

I like The model as well, My TV picture is so much better than before, My recordings have been perfect, I can stream from my foxsat. To me anything else is icing on the cake,

I am also planning a purchase of the forthcoming white model (which I read has wifi) as a second unit.

My development priority in the things that I develop is always to fix the bugs first, as reputation counts for everything and if you want repeat custom, there is nothing more important.
So not being able to enter the + symbol in the tv portal keyboard would get fixed first as it has the highest impact on useablility.

next would be it not remembering the dns setting would get fixed next as this would cut down support requests for users who need this facility

next would be sorting out the tuner information as this again would be generating support calls with people returning their units thinking the second tuner is faulty. (This has happened already - i have read about it on another forum). Even if was just to display an explanation below the screen, if it was going to take a little while to change the code,

Next providing a consistent experience, for example pressing the back key should always take you back a level so I would fix that next or the random subtitle issue.

Next comes delivering promised features, 4OD/Demand 5 and getting you tube and internet radio working in the portal.

Then lastly I would work on any extra functionality like additional codecs or adding in mediatomb or some other
server functionality.

By the way I am not at all being negative about the product, I think it is really great, I am just highlighting these issues to help get the product to an even better state. I would have participated in the beta if I had known how to get on it.

will have to try that myself, as I too have a HDR500 fitted with 1tb drive in our bedroom in the bungalow and have a large number of films on there, tho TBH it still gets used a fair bit as I go and lie on bed if the OH is watching something on main TV in lounge.

A minor bug? The manual states that FF on a recording goes up to x64. On mine successive key presses takes it to x32, and the TV display shows at each step the correct speed. Then a further press visibly increases the speed but the display still shows x32 rather than x64.

Yet again mine locked up after watching an iPlayer programme. No response to RC,only answer to cut power and switch back on. This is my only complaint against the Humax,but it needs fixing fast.

I've had it where it seemed to hang with a blank black screen 3 or 4 times when selecting a BBC HD prog in iPlayer. Pressing the EPG seem to get me out of it, and next time it's played ok.

Had a reply from Humax today regarding improvements to the players on the HDR-1000S,stating they do not think it is a product issue. They are also planning a software update in the next 3-4 weeks that should address the issue. Here's hoping.

Here's hoping that this excellent box is further improved by a bug-fix software release before Christmas.

i have the tv set to auto 16:9 and also the box set to auto and 16:9 yet quite a few channels still have the black sides where picture does not fill screen, i have set the picture to anamorphic which seems to solve it on most channels but not on the HD channels or some adverts, such as coca cola.....
