In the thread for yesterday's show she was being ripped to shreds by 99% of posters, Not even Maurel or the Spencers have that high a percentage tearing them to peices.
Is this really fair?

I'm not hear to ask about whether or not someone as 'normal' should be living in the 'big house' because the answer would be obvious.
I'm just puzzled by the extrodinary level of negativity towards her and the writing for her that seems to have turned her into a hate figure.
But consider the follwing.
Isn't Katie/Sammy putting over EXACTLY what the writers are asking from her?
Isn't it quite clear they are showing how money can change people without them realising it? Katie even asked if she's changed.
Even before the spoilers, it was obvious they were setting her up for a fall and losing her friends.
How is that bad writing?

Katie is basically a nice ordinary girl but has her flaws like anyone else and messed up with the Sugdens when she was a teen.
Sadly, for many she's either too nice, dull but now too bitchy???

The reason I cant stand her is because she read Gennie the riot act last night over chas and cameron when:

1) If Chas wanted to tell her, she would have
2) It's none of her business
3) It wasn't Gennie's place to tell
4) Katie wouldn't have been able to keep her mouth shut if she knew
5) She whinged about what Chas has "Done to Debbie while she was pregnant"" - Totally overlooking and ignoring the fact she slept with her husband's brother!
6) She was more upset about Carl being murdered on her wedding day than Carl's death in general
7) She thinks money makes her perfect

I'll probably have a few more reasons later lol

Not by me she's not. I don't mind Katie. Not one of my favourite characters by any stretch of the imagination but compare to 'maurel' I'd hate to see harm come to her.
Unlike laurel who I find myself having lost complete interest in her.
She doesn't look right in marlon's kitchen far less his house and frankly they leave me so bored and uninterested in them or their SL that I'd gladly see either or both disppear into the woods never to be seen again.

And now I see that TPTB are gonna try to make it all cozy and have 'maurel' be friends with Rhona and Paddy (Rhaddy/Paona/Padona?!)
Hope that Rhona doesn't fall for Paddy trying to push her into a renewed friendship with laurel.

I used to like Katie. I still did until the whole thing with insulting Gennie. But it's all down to SB for me, changing the characters and making them completely different from how they were before, which doesn't bode well with me. He's ruined a lot of my favourite characters and this is no different.

P. S I still hate Maurel more than Katie, but they're not my most hated. Rachel is by a mile.

Yes, emma, i completely agree about the way she dealt with Gennie. It made her look incredibly selfish and her '' if you want to stay friends with me'' remark was incredibly arrogant. - so arrogant it made me laugh actually.
But there's a point to all this, as will be shown.

They are simply doing a storyline about how money can change some people for the worst.
At this moment in time in the show the obvious one to do this too is the 'working stable girl' who gets lucky.

I simply don't see this as samekind needless character assasination some of the others have suffered.
I'm sure 'nice Katie' will be back sooner or later.

Yeah well it's not totally pointless but there's better ways of doing it than how it has been done. And I'm not too sure nice Katie will be back. It's SB we're taking about.

She didn't cover herself in glory last night it has to be said! Most of what you list is spot on. Not sure that she thinks money makes her perfect though, I just think Declan's general attitude has rubbed off on her.

I'm going to have to look at the spoilers because I must have missed what happens to her. As long as it makes her realise that she's been a bit of a bitch (for her) lately then I'll be happy.

I've never minded Katie, she's always been an OK character to me, not a favourite but I've never minded her and I don't like them spoiling her character like this. Other girls I could see the new wealth and 'status' going to their heads but I always thought that Katie was far too sensible and had her feet far too firmly on the ground to let it happen to her. If she's going to be the lady of the manor then I'd prefer her to be a nice, lady bountiful type who keeps on giving away Declan's money and time and annoying him no end in the process!

She also agreed to surrogate for Grayson and Perdy and then had an affair with Grayson and tried to keep the baby... she did the right thing in the end (but only when she found out Grayson was gay and had been lying to her)

Nothing could be more hated than Maurel!
I don't think Katie is acting out of character, she's always had the capacity to be a manipulative cow if needs be- the affair with Robert including getting victoria to stay quiet and the whole offering to be a surrogate because she fancied Grayson and in my opinion deliberately edging Perdy out as 2 examples. She has for several years also given the impression of thinking she's a cut above the other villagers, again probably since getting mixed up with the posh folk of perdy and Grayson. She's not just a stable hand I she's running quite a high brow business dealing with the horsey/pony set, not packing sweets or working in a shop. Marrying money is just bringing it out more.
However, she can also be lovely and a loyal friend and I don't blame her for finding Robbie's advances disturbing and being upset that Declan and Megan wouldn't take her seriously. So, multi-faceted, not black or white.

Very fair points you make there, kitkat, that highlight the good and not so good sides of Katie.

You say she's "multi facated" and i said she's basically a nice, but flawed character, so we're pretty much on the same page on her character.

As has been shown in the new threads about her, she's had a number of stories that have shown her negative sides, but they have balanced those out by showing her really nice sides as well.
She's been called a snob, meddler, cow, maniplative bitch, but also nice, friendly and good friend. She's also one of the characters who's smile is never far from her face.
Pretty rounded character if you ask me.

i like katie too, sorry havent been bothered to read half the thread but i did see katies reaction to Gennie "sleeping with her neices boyfriend whilst pregnant" and completely understand katies anger, if i found out one of my bf had done the same id be livid too. do what you like but you dont psss on your neices/nephews like that its the all time low.

i dont care who have affairs or what because no one knows what goes on behind closed doors and often the martital bliss couples are the ones going through abuse, but if you love your family thats one line you dont cross, and likewise if my best mate was happy to let me pay for her wedding id expect some honesty in return and to find out they were marrying on the rebound (which she was) and then murdered someone id be a tad psssd off too

Exactly. Her main beef seems to be that, Gennie didn't pass on gossip about a situation that could adversely effect her big day which is incredibly selfish. It's car, Cameron and Chas that caused the problem so talk to them, those still alive. Gennie didn't sleep with her niece's boyfriend, Chas did. Gennie was just trying to do the best for Debbie as well as Chas whilst going through pregnancy issues.

Also hypocritical as Katie slept with her fiances brother the night before her first big day. Would it have been Donna's fault had she found out and not told a mutual friendy. Would that have made Jack being shot Donna's fault rather than Andy, Robert and Katies?
