What's a boy to make of all these?

Mosying around the net in search of a good Android tablet, I came across the website Chinistore which listed all these brands/companies/whatever:

Acho, Ainol, Aishuo, Ampe, Aocos, Bmorn, Chinpad, Chintab, Chuwi, Cube, Cutepad, Dropad, Eken, Flytouch, Freelander, Gadmei, GTpad, Haina, Huawei, Hyundai, ICOO, IToos, JXD, Lenovo, Magictab, Malata, Meiying, MID, Newsmy, Onda, ONN, Pipo, Ployer, Ramos, Sanei, SmartQ, Synrgc, Teclast, Vido, Vosoo, VVSUM, Window, Witstech, Yooe, Yuandao, Zenithink.

All are Android of some kind or another. But what to make of them? Which are good, which are bad and which are mediocre? There's no way of telling. Another poster here spoke of getting a Ployer tablet, but I don't know where he found it. And these are just mainly Chinese ones.

Does anyone know anything about any of these and their reputation? Because some of the prices are very attractive indeed, but then no one would want to buy a pile of cack however cheap.

Ok, here we go (this is just my opinion.

China have a lot of unbranded tablets avaliable for sale, from the list you have mentioned. The ones i have heard of/used/know others used/reliable etc... are Ainol, Chuwi, Eken, Huawei, Lenovo, MID, Pipo, Sanei, Window, Zenithink.

These ones all do android tablets. They manufacturer them and sell them in China. You can buy them online from stores like these, however i wouldn't recommend buying from stores unless they have a good rep. Plus you can usually get them on ebay or amazon from a uk trusted seller for around £20 more. The Websites like the one you posted usually ship from abroad and require you to pay shipping/tax so it may work out the same anyway. So thats why i recommend to buy in the UK.

In terms of spec for price ratio, no others can come close to the above. However, they are not always the best of build quality/warranty/reliability. That being said i don't know anyone who has had an issue with these brands.

Ainol and Window have the best 10 inch tablet range i think still. Ainol, eken, chuwi, (Ampe) etc... have the best 7 inch range i believe. Huawei and Lenovo are a bit more expensive as they are big brand names inside China.

If you post here what you're after, i will try and recommend and find a reliable seller for your match.

The reason I posted the list was because for someone such as me it is utterly bewildering and there is NO way a punter such as me can know what is good, bad or indifferent. Although I really don't need one, I am thinking of getting a tablet and because, after using a Huawei G300 Ascend for a while, first with Android 2.3.6, now updated (courtesy of Vodafone) to Android 4.0, I rather like Android (but then I'm the kind of guy who prefers to drive a 12-year-old Rover 45 bought for £800 for cash than take out a loan to get a five-year-old nicer car).

So going through the list on Chinistore, I specified an 8in capacitive screen, running Android 4.0 (not Jellybean as I understand there are wifi issues still to be sorted out), with decent memory and a decent screen resolution. That reduces a choice of around 30 to a choice of around 18 - all brands I have never heard of and for which I cannot google a review of any kind.

At the end of the day it comes down to pot luck: go for one between the cheapest on that list and the most expensive and hope for the best (and, of course, factor in the £20 shipping fee). I'm sure that were I to follow that route, I would still get something halfway decent and even if it wasn't the bees knees chick magnet we all pray for, what the ****.

Lenovo are a big brand name in the West as well since they bought IBMs ThinkPad range a few years ago - I'd not put their tablets in the same class as the others and Huawei are starting to get well known for thir high spec budget mobile phones

Be aware that if you are buying from China you may well get stung with import duty plus there is little come back if something goes wrong, pay the small amount extra and buy from a UK seller if you don't know what you are doing. Right now in the budget range the momo8 on amazon is a decent buy else nexus 7 or galaxy for the smaller sized tablets.

And I have bought tablets from China several times and am speaking from experiance.
