Hmm. First impressions of the 2nd trailer:
1) I didn't realise there was any speech in this film, thought it was all sung. 2) Russell Crowe can't sing. Still looking forward to it though. |

I'm happy about the spoken dialogue but not about Russell Crowe's lack of vocal talent! Couldn't they have got a great actor who could sing, given that this is based on a legendary musical?

I just hope the vocals are as powerful and strong as they are in the stage version. That is what makes it a great show. From the trailers I am doubtful which is a shame.

God, I'm so excited by this. Anne Hathaway sings that song EXACTLY as it is supposed to be sung. It is beautiful. I absolutely love that they had everyone sing live during filming so there's no lip syncing at all. It means the vocals will have the real emotion driven by the intensity of the acting. I cannot wait to see this, it looks absolutely perfect.

People need to remember it's a movie. Fans of the theatre show are driving me crazy about the casts singing ability. Just so happens they are all trained singers, aswell as wonderful actors.

Only two months to go. I have been waiting for this for the last 20 years since I discovered the show! The trailer looks amazing and I'm confident they've done it justice.

Anne Hathaway sings I dreamed a dream just how I would hope. I really think this will be her oscar winning performance.

Probably not fair to judge from a couple of lines without the full music. He has sung in some fairly successful bands over the last 30 years and written and released several albums as well as performing live on tour. And unlike manufactured bands, he must be able to sing to have had any success at all. |

As this is the first movie musical of Les Mis ever to be done, and with Cameron Macintosh involved so heavily, I very much doubt he would let anyone or anything ruin his vision. He knows how much theater audiences love his show, and as the stage version is purely sung, he also knows that it's the songs that make it the monster success that it is. No other film version has been a massive success because they didn't have the emotional power that the music provides. It's the songs that are the power behind the success of the show, so they will be very carefully crafted on the screen, I'm sure. I can't imagine he would have cast anyone who couldn't sing as well as all the actors who have ever played the parts on stage, and I've seen it up there in London at least 7 times, with different Valjeans, Fantines, Eponines and Javerts every time, and every time it was amazing.
I pray that this lives up to my expectations. I, too, have been waiting for a movie to do the musical justice, and this looks like it's going to come pretty darned close to what I've always wanted. But trailers can often be misleading, so I pray I'm not going to be disappointed. BTW, I think the casting of Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter is genius! I think they will be perfect in their roles. |

I don't think Russel Crowe was that bad, and it's only an extract (and an extract which isn't really meant to be sung as such - atleast not in the traditional sense). |

The more clips I see of this the more amazing it looks. So excited to see it!
I hope it does well. Do musicals do well at the cinema these days? |

AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING!!!
If I was excited before, I'm pretty much crying and shaking with anticipation after that. I love that there is going to be some spoken dialogue - I think literally all song would be a bit much for a screen version so I don't mind that alteration. The entire cast look and sound absolutely stunning. I have chills. |

I've just discovered this, and now I'm ridiculously excited.
I think Russell Crowe will be a great Javert. He has the same kind of quality that Philip Quast had in the role - a kind of brutality. His vocals were good in the trailer. I think Anne Hathaway is genius casting, and I'm so excited about Samantha Barks as Eponine. And Amanda Seyfried? For the first time ever, I might actually root for Cosette. I squealed when Colm Wilkinson appeared in the trailer. And I can't wait for Helena Bonham Carter/Sacha Baren Cohen. And Hugh Jackman. I just don't have the words. I'm so, so excited about this. |
