Sick of Stuart Blackburn ruining characters.

title says it all. since he took over from gavin blyth, hes systematically changed the main characters personalities on emmerdale. hes split up long establiched relationships (ashley n laurel worked very well).

his latest victim is katie, trying to change her, unconvincingly, from a nice, sound, reliable character into this ridiculous super-bitch.

sooner hes gone the better, can we have the emmerdale back that we, the fans, loved? where the characters were normal, likeable, humourous, laced with a tinge of evil?

I said to my OH last night, the producers seem to change characters to suit their scripts.
Take Katie, she never had a bad bone in her body yet she turned on Gennie because of Chas. Chas is after all her sister and it puts her in a difficult position.

Katie has now turned nasty so are we supposed to believe she is like this because she married a rich man? I don't think it was because of the wedding thing at all.

I know Katie did the dirty on Andy years back but usually she is a kindly person.

Plot driven storylines

Personalities must change to suit particular story

Epitome of bad writing

Just wait til he gets to Corrie if it goes anything like Emmerdale expect something like:

All characters to suddenly change their personalities overnight to suit badly thought out stories at the drop of a hat
Roy and Hayley split up cos Hayley runs off with Dev (street idiot)
A load of uninteresting, boring, badly casted, awful, unlikable new characters that no one gives a stuff about whilst totally ignoring all the ones who've been there years
Close and get rid of the Kabin, a place where many of the locals interact, for no good reason
Unsubtle hints to killing characters off, and of course they will be the best actors, most interesting characters who are most popular with the viewers that will go. Meanwhile, all the useless deadwood will stay.

Whoever at ITV has decided and agreed to let this man be in charge of their top soap, a show that gives them one of their highest ratings, needs removing from their position pronto and taking to see the men in white coats. If it was me I'd of fired them on the spot just for suggesting it!

On the whole i agree with the OP, but not with the change to Katie.

We've all heard of money/success going to someones head, so why not show this with Katie?
Katie is one of my fav characters, but i have no problem with the way her character is at the mo.

Want to see the old Katie back at sometime though.

Whilst I agree about runing characters, I do quite like the Carl King murder storyline as it's kept me glued for weeks (more than I can say for EE and Corrie) and pretty much features half the cast having been affected in some way:

Jimmy, Nicola, Scarlett, Thomas, Anya, Edna, Rodney, Chas, Cameron, Debbie, Cain, Charity, Rest of the Dingles, Victoria, Adam, Moira, Dan, The Spencers, Gennie, Nickill, Megan exct..

He's turned the show which was set in a rural community into some urban wannabe.
I seriously cannot wait until he leaves so we can get the Emmerdale back we loved.

He's the worst producer in history

Most of that sounds like the current Coronation Street.

Good grief, it's spot on for EE too. Did they take classes in how to destroy the top three soaps or something?

true, but what we saw in katie then was a gradual realisation that she fancied robert, it was realistic and fitted well within her character. her current storyline is abysmal, shes been given crap scripts.

true, money does change people, but i dont see it being money with katie. tbh i cant fathom WHY shes turned into a bitch, rubbish execution, rubbish script.

spot on. and thats unfortunate because its only the emmerdale faithful thatll put up with these crap plots, in the hope that it might return to the show we love best.

My thoughts exactly, lionkingonstage; the Spencers, Kerry - all Eastenders material. Let us hope for better things from a new producer. I feel sorry for Coronation Street fans who I believe are to be saddled with him.

SB cares more about the plot than he does about the characters simple as!

One thing I will never, ever forgive Stuart Blackburn for is axing Tom Lister!

I know he ruined several Emmerdale characters, but because I was so horrified by all the characters he axed or drove out, I did not stay glued long enough to see many characters actually ruined.

Is there any character that he hasn't ruined?
