external HDD'S on panasonic lcd tv

hi,i recently upgraded my tv to a Panasonic TX-L47ET5B from a Samsung. problem i have is my external hard drive i used no problem on the samsung tv to veiw movies wont work with the panasonic..great pity as my collection took years to make...the HDD drive im using is sea gate 3tb...My question is can you recommend a new external HDD that i can transfer my collection onto so that I can view on my new panasonic,i dont want to purchase a new HDD and find the tv wont recognise it and I cant find a list of compatable HDD'S anywhere..cheers

Your problem might be that your HDD is 3tb, most Panasonic models which support external HDD's only support drives between 160gb to 2tb.
Just to make sure, have you registered the HDD correctly with the TV?, using the remote you should go into Menu > Setup > USB HDD Setup > Device setup, and register the HDD.

I think that just registering the drive then Deletes all the data on it..which I do not think is what is wanted here

You're mistaken, registering the HDD doesn't delete anything.

Most, if not all Smart TV's and blu-ray players with USB media player capability can't cope with an external HDD larger in capacity than 2TB.
