BBC iPlayer problem Apple iMac Nov 2012

Mountain Lion 10.8.2

After a recent "auto" downloading Adobe Air v3.5, BBC iPlayer stopped working with error messages.

(29th October 2012 as I opened up BBC iPlayer)

I eventually traced problem to the v3.5 Air update, and reverting back to v3.3 and v3.4 cured the problem.

I had to use the Air uninstaller first to remove v3.5, and also a file manager air search, as the uninstaller wouldn't at first.

These older versions are available here...

I usually save older Air .dmgs anyway, but not v3.4 for some reason !

There is now a statement about this, from the BBC.

The important part of the statement...

BBC iPlayer Desktop - Why am I unable to install new content and why have I lost downloaded content since installing the latest version of Adobe Air?

***Updated 09 November 2012***

We have replicated the fault and are currently in discussion with our service partner in finding a resolution, which occurs if the latest version of Adobe Air (3.5) is installed.

If you have Adobe Air 3.5 Installed you may not be able to download new programmes, including series catch-up downloads and any programmes already downloaded may have disappeared.

I think you mean temporary (and fiddly) workaround, not fix!

The solution will be provided by whoever broke the thing, probably Adobe (but *possibly* BBC iPlayer staff if they previously did something non-standard in the software).

Either way, it's very annoying.

There has been an update to Air from 3.4.0.2540 to 3.4.0.2710 which is now available (Auto download when BBC iPlayer opened)

Seems to work OK.
