If they do give each couple a decade I think it will work something like this:

20s - Charleston (Denise or Victoria?)
30s - Foxtrot based American Smooth (Michael)
40s - Quickstep (Dani)
50s - Jive (Nicky)
60s - Quickstep based American Smooth (Louis)
70s - Samba(Lisa)
80s - Jive (Kimberley?)
90s - Samba/Salsa (Richard?)
00s - Samba/Salsa (Denise or Victoria?)

I suppose they could fit any dance into any decade, as I imagine it would be a very loose theme. I think it will be latin heavy though so there'll be at least one more Samba/Salsa.

It is the salsa for Richard and Erin

Dani & Vincent - Quickstep (BBC 'Friday Feeling' clip)
Denise & James - ?
Kimberley & Pasha - ? (Jive? - not confirmed)
Lisa & Robin - Samba (Lisa's twitter)
Louis & Flavia - American Smooth (Team Flouia twitter)
Michael & Natalie - American Smooth (Michael's twitter)
Nicky & Karen - Jive (Nicky's twitter)
Richard & Erin - ? (Salsa? - not confirmed)
Victoria & Brendan - ?

So presumably Lisa & Robin are the 70's, Nicky & Karen the 50's/80's, and either Dani or Louis could be the 30's so far. Mind you so could Michael. Still haven't been able to watch today's ITT so did they mention anything about the themes?

(EDIT: Sorry, was checking Twitter before posting this so missed the last two posts. Do we have a source for Richard doing salsa?)

Disco Samba would be yawningly stereotypical/predictable as well. Whatever it is, it will be fun fun fun all the way... yay.

Plenty of gurning and hand movements. The technique will be crap, but she'll get a decent enough score anyway.

I think the samba is quite mean for Wembley. It's quite difficult to travel isn't it? It's not like a QS or an AS where you can really cover the floor.

I also can't wait for Craig's comments on the samba bounce as he's such an expert.

Both Pasta and Robin made the travelling work last year (true, to very different results ).

I think it's fine if there are two and on a predominantly Latin night, but all those ASs and Quicksteos are going to look amazing and will also probably be easier to score higher.

What looks like might be the only samba on a ballroom heavy night is just mean.

Thinking about the pros: James, Robin, Flavia and Pasha are the ones who'll be dancing at Wembley for the second time this year - and of course Russell and Flavia's dance was mainly about the cannon stunt. But I thought the routines that worked best last year were the ones that stuck mainly to the podium in the centre of the stage - will James and Pasha do something similar this year? Anita starting in the crowd didn't work - trying to cover all the space is probably a bad idea.

Conversely, Vincent, Natalie, Erin, Brendan and of course Karen are dancing at Wembley for the first time this year. I have a suspicion Natalie might cope quite well in particular and come up with a clever routine.

The BBC are promoting this week as a "Dance Through the Decades" theme (for example here). Seems a safe enough bet that each dance will represent a different decade.

Yes you are right and Holly and Artem's quickstep looked a bit messy as they tried to cover too much floor.

Kylie singing Locomotion which was her hit before Louis and Dani were born. Doesn't she have any new songs to plug?

I think the opposite actually. I saw the tour this year and they had the same central platform, and the routine that worked best was the only one that even attempted to cover the floor beyond that podium - Harry & Aliona's Quickstep.

If a couple doesn't have a dance that travels, then fair enough, but if those who have QS or AS don't try and use the whole floor I'd take a mark off just for that!

I saw her on Johnathan Ross, I think it was, and she's slowed them all down into torch songs. I Should Be So Lucky should be chucked into Room 101 for crimes against music the first time round, but as a ballad

The best ballad-ised version from her collection, for me, is Jose Gonzalez singing Hand On Your Heart.
Didn't think it would ever work but I love his version

I'd missed that bit.

I think it's more that travelling works best for the live audience, and the podium works best for the tv audience. If it was me, I'd always be trying to appeal to the larger demographic to get votes.

I understand that, but that podium is smaller than the normal Strictly studio, and a Quickstep that doesn't travel even the size of the Strictly studio dancefloor looks quite strange in my opinion, so I don't think they should stick to the podium unless they're doing a dance like Jive or Charleston where it's possible to do it in a smaller space. Ballroom travels, it's the nature of those dances.
