X Factor boss Simon Cowell is reportedly after Cheryl Cole to return to the show next year.

The music mogul is apparently planning a big shake up of the series, which could see the panel changed for the third time in as many years.

The People newspaper reports that the latest idea could see Cheryl back alongside Nicole Scherzinger on another new line up of judges.

“Simon sees Cheryl and Nicole as the dream team. He believes those two women on the show would pull in *viewers and make it so much more *appealing than the current series,” a source told the tabloid today. “Simon thinks people would watch it in their droves so he is currently lining up an audacious bid to offer her.

“He knows Cheryl won’t be cheap but more importantly he knows he needs to offer her the right role.”

The source continued: “She has resisted going back despite him offering Cheryl the UK X Factor after the US situation went wrong.

“He doesn’t expect it to be easy but Simon likes a challenge.”

The supposed insider also claimed that Cheryl could alternatively replace Gary Barlow on the show, who is unlikely to return for a third series.

“Someone will have to make way for Cheryl’s return and it definitely won’t be Nicole. Tulisa could find herself for the chop or Cheryl could even replace Gary,” the source claimed. “The current view is he won’t return to the show next year, probably through his choice rather than Simon’s.”

It was recently reported that Tulisa has been unhappy with all the rumours surrounding next year’s series, with claims that she is set to be given the chop.

“After hearing the rumours, Tulisa is telling friends how she’s done with fame and wants to go out soon,” a source suggested. “She says she just wants a husband and kids and wants to be a mum with no financial worries.
This would certainly be interesting to watch.

Don't think it's a good idea. Cheryl is hardly the nation's sweetheart anymore.

If this is true I'm glad Nicole's staying though She's brilliant.

So am I... I'm slightly annoyed with the idea that we may have to put up with Gary for another year.

The claws would definitely be out on a panel consisting of Nicole and Cheryl.

Seeing Cheryl in the audience of Strictly last night, I really miss her on X Factor.

However I can't see Cheryl and Nicole getting along.

Does Cowell really think that just getting back Cheryl Cole on the panel will make the show increase by an extra 3 million viewers?

The format itself needs changing as it's starting to look a little tired now. 3 million extra viewers aren't going to come back to the show just because Cheryl is sitting on the panel, instead of Tulisa or Gary.

Agree with you, people are fed up of the show it is stale, i liked Danni on the show the best but im sure the format would be the same even if she was brought back.:

Three tiny problems:

1. Cheryl refused to come back the first time (for the 2011 series)
2. Many people seem to think that Nicole took Cheryl's job on the American show - would you REALLY put them on a panel together and expect them to get on better than Nicole and Tulisa? They'd ignore each other even further.
3. They tried to give Cheryl the head judge job over Gary in 2011 but they would still work together - she refused to take that from her friend then, so would she really want to replace him completely?

So... the short answer is no. The long answer is hell no.

Simon also asked her back for X Factor USA series 2 and she said no. I don't think she wants to be on the show full time. Her little appearance this year was filmed in a day.

Simon seems to think what worked before will work again. He is a great believer in trying to reheat a souffle. That's why he was keen to get Paula on the first season of X Factor USA - and look how that turned out. That's why a lot of SyCo artists have Unchained Melody on their albums.

He needs to realise people move on. And so must he.

But she still went back to the show despite stating a number times she would never go back.

If she really wanted to go back, she would have jumped at being on X Factor USA for series 2, which would have been a bigger deal than a small cameo with Gary Barlow. And all of the times I've heard her say she wouldn't go back was in response to questions about her being a full time judge, much like this article.

Why on earth would FOX want her over Britney, Demi and LA?

She's even more of a non-entity that already failed the first time.

Absolutely agree. It would be a backwards step in a show that has to go forward or die

Britney and Demi are hardly bringing in the ratings, are they?

Messing with the judges won't make a blind bit of difference.

If Simon Cowell is serious about revitalising and revalidating the show, he has to STOP with the scripted comments, STOP using the judges to plug or destroy the contestants he likes/doesn't like and STOP the sing-off. Leave it to the public. They might not make the right decisions but at least we could all stop shouting 'FIX' at every decision.

At the moment, the show (rightly or wrongly) has lost all credibility and that is the rot that has to be stopped if XF is to survive.

I completely agree if they can't then Cheryl certainly wouldn't.
