Hi, is there anyone other than me who actually liked the old Ben Mitchell, Charlie Jones? i know he was a bit annoying most of the time, but I didn't actually think he was that bad!! Anyone know of anything else he is doing, or if he has a twitter or something?

He was absolutely awful.

I laughed when he was getting abused by Stella because his acting was just so over the top, camp and theatrical it took all seriousness away from what the storyline was trying to tackle.

I'm not even going to start on his "you need slapping down" line.

He wouldn't have been able to achieve half of what Joshua Pascoe did during Heather's murder storyline.

I agree to an extent that Charlie Jones wouldn't have been able to carry out the gritty scenes re Heather's murder in the summer that Joshua Pascoe managed but then had Charlie Jones stayed then I don't think they'd have ever considered penning the needless "Hev" murder in the first place.....and would perhaps have written him out along with the likes of Libby and Jordan if they thought he had ran his course. As Phil was still going to be prominent in the show though, having survived his drug ordeal and having made a miraculous recovery, then they decided Ben was to stick about I suppose but needed beefing up after his borstal experience..

For me the recast was a silly and needless one to Joshua Pascoe (surely the biggest personality transplant of all time in EE!) and for what it was all worth in the end - killing the women everybody supposedly loved (Heather) - I don't think! She was just the one everyone felt sorry for, they hardly loved her, maybe with the exception of Shirley! I think Andrew only married her out of sympathy too!

I dont think he was changed that much. Ben as charlie was troubled and already hitting people ie jordan.

I liked the old Ben, too. He was soft & weak--yes. But when he first appeared on EE, he was a child who'd lost his mother, in a new country, w/ a new family very different from Kathy.

The new Ben was needed in order to take the character in a new direction.

Both worked for me, really.

the thing is charlie jones isnt a bad actor, he was just given material that didnt suit him he would probably do well in a childrens tv show ect the abuse he got on here was awful though he tried his best and was only a kid at the time

Charlie was a bad actor. The six year old actor that plays Denny is much better than him.

This, exactly. Someone posted a link to Charlie Jones's CV recently, and he still looks exactly the same even though the actor is 16. He's still a sweet looking kid, but Ben needed to be 'aged', Could you imagine Charlie sleeping with Lola? That would have been painful.

OldBen made me laugh, I found the Lucas/Ben scenes funny and 'Slap downnn' was soo hilarious.
I prefer NuBen, I don't think OldBen would have worked well in the Hev SL.

Old Ben was just so bad it was funny! His 'you need slapinnnnn down', 'what are you gonna do to me...Mr Johnson' (making me LOL now just writing it) and that time he tried to be street and talk like it in the cafe was just so cringeworthy. Joshua Pascoe was a million times better and played out Hev's murder fantastically. I didnt not like Charlie Jones as Ben but because of his acting I could never take him seriously and if i wanted something like that then I would watch Corrie.

I didn't mind him. I don't think that he was as bad as some made him out to be.
