I think there's probably a overlap between many of the people who vote and the sort of people who dislke Cheryl - thats probably built in. Very few people do vote and they are, by definition, driven by something more than the majority who don't - and there's a lot of negative reasons involved in that as well as a sex bias. There's also a lead set for readers of the tabloid press by the papers who are anti Cheryl - but publish every possible picture they can of her.
As you say though that shouldn't register in a positive vote - or be capable of registering . Logically it shouldn't register negatively for Kimberley at all. 3 million twitter fans for Cheryl and a lot of support for Girls Aloud should register though . The only explanation why it hasn't is that their fans are not voting or watching. You might argue that female voters are more likely to be still committed to their old
boybands, but you would think fans would actually be more interested and less fickle. They might all be watching the X factor or out for the night? When did the X factor start?
The rest of the vote may be following past preceedent. Some people seem to vote to save whoever is last because they just don't get what the programme is about. Craig and Len have been giving out low marks - which some voters seem to habitually vote against. Lisa may have the comedy vote.Cricketers often attract a vote.Louis may have a vote from all the young gymnasts who will have watched the gymnastics. Victoria may have an Olympian vote - she's more successful than Louis. Dani will be unknown to much of the audience, and I ssuspect most of the voters are too old to know or follow Girls Aloud.
