I think it's the arrogance of anyone who just dismisses other people's opinion- whatever it is based on- that is the problem.

I've watched the show from the very early days of Natasha Kaplinsky and professionals like Nicole Cutler so I can call myself a dedicated Strictly Fan. But with Strictly beating X-Factor this year people are gradually gravitating to Strictly and enjoying it.

And that's good to see, it's a great show. But I had an 'argument' the other day with someone who only started watching this series and they tried to force their knowing of the show onto me and say that I was wrong for saying that it's time for Brucie to go because the show is going in a younger direction and the same jokes are becoming more tedious than ever.

I wouldn't try and push my knowledge of the show on anyone but if I did I'd know the show from the very beginning kind of thing?

Whether this is just me I don't know but it does get my back up if I'm honest.”

Also seems a bit cheeky to complain about others opinions on DS when someone only joined here very recently.

Better to get to know the regular posters rather than charging in with size 14 boots as some new people seem to have done.

There are no rules on SCD that state that every voter must vote on dance quality. Their money, their choice.

I see nothing arrogant about a poster dismissing your knowledge of dance as being completely unimportant to them, particularly if your opinion was unsolicited. If a viewer picks up the phone because Louis' pontefract cake floats their boat or because they admired Victoria's cycling career or because Artem is fit innit, that's their prerogative. Your extensive knowledge of dance is irrelevant to them so to try and make them see things from your point of view is doomed to failure.

Whatever seemingly trivial aspect of a partnership has prompted someone to phone, it certainly doesn't mean that their opinion is less valid or more worthy of dismissal than the opinion of a trained ballroom dancer.

I can force myself to agree with you so long as it works the other way around and as far as I can see it does not (the lightweights go straight for the jugular)

Don't strain yourself on my account. People have been disagreeing with me since the dawn of time and I haven't crumbled yet.

BiB - That's quite a generalisation. Do they all do that? With no provocation? In what way?

Best advice for anyone posting . If someone likes or dislikes something you are not going to change their opinion.

Youre right its a bit late I wont strain myself (I am not shy and retiring though) I may inadvertantly provoke but I only spelled the Rumba incorrectly and I stood myself in a corner and slapped my own legs it was so repremanding!!!!!!

I can't speak for everyone (although I may occasionally try to) but I'm not sure referring to a group of posters as "lightweights" is the most tactful thing to do. If I thought that I was implied there it would certainly get my back up. Minor point but while we're on the subject...

Is there any possibility that you could maybe try and use some punctuation ?

I'm sure your points are most valid, but I can't really understand them.

What classes a poster as a lightweight in your opinion ?. Just curious. I think I may be one.

Sorry about the punctuation, I am out of practice these days, it seems to be out of fashion, I will try harder (full stop exclamation mark),! With regards to lightweight postings, I suppose its any that ignore the dance performance, and the dismissing of Celebs, because of some trivial reference to hairstyles, or such like!

I'm waiting for the day that the automated voice on the voice line tuts, rolls their eyes, refuses to take the vote and slams the phone down in disgust.

Until then, I reserve the right to vote for who I like for whatever reason I like

That is true. I watched Natasha Kaplinsky's win too and enjoyed it. The music was good in the first two series but subsequent years the music and singing began to be a poorer quality.
However, I do think this year the music and singing are a really good standard and it has made all the difference to the show.
X Factor was always my first choice to watch out of the two shows but it has slipped down and down to a dire level mainly because of the miserable Gary Barlow.
Strictly on the other hand has improved with the addition of Darcy Bussell on the panel.
The quality singers and music and the contestants being voted out of the competition in a fair order has made a good series so far. I am really enjoying it.

Don't be so precious about yourselves - it's an entertinment show, it's not as if it's football or anything umportant like ...

Well said.

There is a dance teachers thread somewhere on the SCD part of DS and no one there gets all high & mighty about their knowledge. Just considered opinions and knowledge shared without condescension.

Some of the posts in here have made me laugh out loud, others have me shaking my head. This is an entertainment/dance show. I reserve the right to vote for whom so ever I choose, oh, wait a minute, I forgot I don't vote, for whatever reason, I also defend the rights of others to do the same. Ditto for voicing an opinion. It doesn't matter if they started watching yesterday, they have an opinion, so it's different to yours, you have to deal with it. God if I had a hissy fit everytime someone disagreed with me I'd never leave the house.

What gets me riled, is FMs diving into or starting threads with the express reason for being obtuse, contrary and rudely dismissing others. I don't know what's happened to the board this year, but I miss the fluffy threads, since they went into the attic things have got crazier, also they helped keep some of the more barking threads off the front page.

Right I'm off to run some errands, before I end up in Bognor.

What gets my back up is people who think others are not entitled to an opinion because they are younger, less experienced, non professional or have watched a tv show less than they have.

The world would be so boring if we all thought the same and if someones opinion is different from yours then why does it get someones back up? How ridiculous.

I suspect that a lot of the negative reaction you get to your expertise can be traced back to this post - a couple of weeks after you joined DS.

I found the mis-spelling of rumba (or is it rhumba) as Rhomba very funny actually, if only because it prompted this response

I suspect there is a direct correlation between the vehemence of a poster's opinion and the degree of upset they feel when other forum members disagree with them.

As for me, I just remember what a very wise Irishman told me (said in a strong Dublin accent): 'Just remember that whatever people think of you... is none of your fecking business.'

A lot of posters would be very interested in a trained dancer's opinion if given in a..... Less forthright manner, shall we say?
If you read back over the thread I quoted from, you'll find that others' views were given very short shrift by your good self, without the sense of humour you have subsequently shown that you DO possess.
It is an entertainment programme primarily, and more than the Dancing matters to a lot of people.

As a highly qualified nurse (get me!), I don't go onto threads discussing Holby City and tell others they CAN'T like Consultant X because I think his CPR technique is rubbish!
Or maybe I should....

Enjoy the forum!

This forum is no place for A Dahnce Purist.

(must always be spelt with extra H and capitalised)

Maybe you'd be happier on a dance forum rather than a TV one
