Can you freeze Muller Rice?
Terry Wigon

Hi.

Have bought 12 of these Muller rice pots at Tescos for £4. Can you freeze them? It doesn't say that you can on the pot and I don't want to waste one if someone knows that they taste awful when defrosted.

I have bought mainly apple, with one strawberry and the rest plain.

Thanks.

If they don't say you can on the pot, then there is a reason for it. It may have nothing to do with the rice of course, it may be that the container itself isn't suitable for freezing.

The only thing I can suggest is you empty one into a carton suitable for the freezer and see how it works.

I haven't frozen muller rice but if its like rice pudding then no it doesn't freeze well.

Oh, I had no idea rice pudding itself didn't freeze well. The sweet stuff in our house never hangs around long enough to consider freezing, unfortunately.

Thanks for your replies. Shame they don't freeze too well ( I can imagine the rice cell walls would be quite damaged by freezing) as I would usually only buy 6. The 12 for £4 (30p each) are a bargain as they have quite a long shelf life anyway and will be gone before they expire.

without trying to be argumentative

with a couple of ounces of rice, a pint of milk and some sugar, you can make your own rice puds, and eat them hot or cold. i would think you would get 2 litres of rice pud (12 x `150gm) for about £1 or so. £2 max.

it certainly won't cost as much as muller charge..
