I just noticed this morning that Rylan's latest post on Facebook has over 1,800 likes compared to the usual 600'odd.

He's got nearly 350,000 followers on Twitter (more than Jahmene, Union J and Chris) and is even topping the "most favourite contestant" poll on here.

Do you think he's becoming more popular as the public realise what a load of rubbish there is on the show this year?

He has less followers than union j, they have the most, but as we saw last night, followers are pretty irrelevant and dont guarantee votes. I agree rylan is gaining support though.

I think people are growing to like him - no he doesn't have the best voice - but he has a personality which the others don't seem to have

Sorry my mistake! Don't know why I put that, tbh. He's only 50,000 behind Ella though!

Oh, and yeah, I know twitter followers don't = votes, but I did find the whole facebook thing quite interesting. That's a massive jump.

His popularity does seem to be growing every week which is great

I just hope all of his fans continue voting over the coming weeks, because he could realistically make the finale.

I think he has turned a lot of people round, he certainly has with me. Good for him!

The fact that he is "gaining" popularity sort of confirms that the show is no longer a singing talent contest more a Big Brother style personality parade. In which case the X Factor has gone off totally in the wrong direction. Or is that what the Cowell crew want?

I suppose when you manipulate your audience so much - which is why they are losing viewers in droves - it was inevitable.

Personally, I am voting for Rylan. The show has been a farce this year and imo, the public should show Simon Cowell that they wont stand for it. Imagine Simon's face with a Rylan and Chris final 2?!?!

In recent years there has tended to be a movement to subvert the programme developing from its supporters as the show goes on. It's to a deliberate attempt from the start each year but tends to grow organically around a novelty act to try and get them to win and embarrass the show into being hoist by its own petard.

I believe that this year it may be developing around Rylan to actually help him win and force the producers to rethink their lunacy in supporting novelty acts in the future.

All the rubbish about him being 'entertaining' is a smokescreen. If this was anything more than a singing competition then why don't 'entertainers' get marked out specifically for being so at the audition stage?

The funny thing is you'd probably get a more sincere album with Rylan than half the contestants on this year's show. He's never made himself out to be more than he is and he really is a bit of fun. Given the right budget I imagine he could put on one hell of a show!

I agree. Once Rylan goes out I shall stop bothering to tune in to the borelowfest.
I have given up on the X Factor winners of the past. They disappear for a year and then expect us to be interested in them. Why does it take so long?
Jedward and Jonny Robinson have found fame through their personalities because people like the feel good fun side about them. I think Rylan will do very well for himself.

I think it's got to the point now that a lot of people take the whole show a lot less seriously. There's less 'it's a singing competition' and more 'its a Saturday night entertainment show' which can only be a good thing. I've liked Rylan since his first audition, and my husband even likes him now (he sits and plays online poker while I watch, but he'll look away for Rylans performance and VT.

Saying that, I don't think Rylan will last much longer.

It's a Ruth sort of thing. B2 early on, B2 middle of it, and then going to the end-ish.
Ruth was saved W1, B2 in W2, safe in W3 and W4, B2 in Week 5 and then safe in Week 6 and 7. Rylan will go either next week or the week after.

At first I liked Rylan because I felt like he was getting too much unwarranted stick. Now I like him for him, and because he's entertaining. He puts in the effort, and no he may not have the best voice, but he's certainly not the worst contestant that's been on the show. I actually found myself getting nervous for him last night!

I think it would be great for him to get to the final, if only to see Gary's reaction when Dermot calls his name!

It's great that people can now see what a nice person he is. I think the people with the most genuine personalities deserve to do well - and he's always stuck with being himself. A lot of that is down to Nicole's wonderful support of him too.

The name Rylan is made up. His name is Ross Richard - that's not being himself.

Possibly changing his name made him feel more true to himself.

Agreed. She was the best mentor for him out of the four.

Do you realise how many singers and actors use stage names?

He's just been bigged-up on This Morning now, they were even saying he might win. Not gonna happen, but how amazing would that be?!

I'd pay to see Gary's reaction

I find him much less annoying, and actually enjoy watching his performance...but only for the first 10 seconds. He gets very old, very quickly.

Loads of stars have a 'stage' name - eg, Lady Gaga, Elton John, George Michael - I could go on. So do you think they're not themselves either?

I definitely think he's getting more popular. Now that he's showed he can actually sing on the show, coupled with how nice a person he is and how he's one of the only interesting contestants this year, it's not surprising people are starting to like him. He grew on me.

I just thought Rylan was a joke at first but over the weeks he's really grown on me and I like him. I think he'll do well out of the show.

I'm not sure what's brought about this change in my opinion. Maybe partly because he seems like a really nice guy and he really does try to put on a show. I'm not overly smitten by any of this year's batch - well not enough to vote for them - and I actually do enjoy Rylan's 'performances' now.
