Boil in bag rice
Steve Threlfall
12-11-2012
Hi all

Got some long grain rice (boil in bag)

Instructions say to cook in boiling water. I was thinking of cooking it in chicken stock to add more flavour

Will the rice take on the flavour even though its in a bag or will it be a waste of time?

The texture of the bag is different, it is bumpy, which are the perforations

The new version may have pre-cooked rice and steams it.

One of the world's greatest inventions, love a bag of Basmati.

Must say Veetee rice is great, microwave in two minutes. Actually resembles real rice - tried one of those Uncle Bens pouches and it remined me of mouse droppings. Basmati and wild rice is my favourite.

I've used boil in the bag, frozen and instant rice before but son't bother now.

Just buy a big bag of rice for little money and if you don't want to faff about with pots and pans just nuke it.

It make take a bit of trial and error to get your timings and water level right but after that it's easy - and cheap.
