One Direction are on course to score their first ever UK No.1 album with Take Me Home, according to Midweek figures.

Their sophomore LP has managed to shift a cool 94,000 copies in just two days - meaning it is on track to be the fastest-selling record in the UK so far in 2012.

Rod Stewart is currently at No.2 with his festive collection Merry Christmas Baby, while the Rolling Stones complete the top three with LP, GRRR!

Over in the singles chart, Bruno Mars and Little Mix are currently battling it out for the top spot, with Mars' Locked Out Of Heaven just 3,000 copies ahead of The X Factor girlband's song, DNA.

1D are sitting pretty at No.3 with Ed Sheeran-penned track Little Things, while McFly debut in the countdown at No.7 with new tune, Loving Is Easy.

Stooshe's cover of the TLC tune Waterfalls in currently in fourteenth place, while Sheeran makes another appearance, this time with his own song, Give Me Love at No.19.

OMG is that true? If so, shame on them to sink to such tactics to get a No.1.

They don't have any competition for the album chart battle this week so yeah they'll have that #1 in bag. It's a great album though, much better than their 1st one imo, so all are well deserved

Rod Stewart's Christmas album is their nearest competition - it actually looks like it'll do quite well! But obviously it's still well behind 1D.

I think their real targets are to have the best selling opening week of any album in 2012 and top their opening sales of the debut album. As you say, #1 is in the bag. Now they just want to do it with some style.

Rihanna will probably beat this record next week as she beat them last year and in the singles chart this year.

Didn't they have a Rod Stewart week in Ben's tear? He was nice to them on tv and then slated them all a few days later on radio apparently. Thats probably why.

Always an excuse from the haters. Just can't accept that the boys are successful.

I think that is ok. That version was originally £7.99. The deluxe £10.99 is selling more than the normal version, everywhere.
