Hollyoaks becoming its own soap?
So I've just come on here, btw don't want to know about Eastenders as haven't watched it yet, but I know Syed and Christian were leaving but Hollyoaks is filling up the first page of the forum, people are talking more about it in General including Twitter as enjoytheride and Jono are both trending, same as last night, Maddie, Rhys and Neil were all trending whereas I haven't seen or heard anything about Eastendes. The question I'm asking is do you feel that Hollyoaks are really starting to push into the top three and become one of the mainstream soaps?

The big episodes of Hollyoaks and EE are excellent, and thats whats happened here, a big episode. However, 99% of the time they are awful, especially Hollyoaks.

No it isn't pushing in to the top 3 and it never will. |

It's already the most mainstream soap.
No it isn't pushing in to the top 3 and it never will. We'll just have to see if they can keep the current quality up or if things fizzle out after this crash week. * - I know EE fans will find that hard to believe! |

Not sure I mean EE, Corrie and ED all have older targets so you cant judge off of the net if HOs is creeping up there as they will always appear to be better if you look online.

Hollyoaks has been really good for a few months now. There have been big story lines such as Esther's bullying, Rhys and Cindy's affair, Cheryl and Brendan, Ste and Doug, Mercedes's downfall, Riley's death, Lynsey's death, Carmel's accident and many more
I really like the other three soaps but they are all in a bad place at the moment. There haven't really been any story lines that really gripped me. Coronation Street is probably the worst at the moment with Emmerdale and EastEnders both coming in close second. |

This sounds like the comment of somebody who only watches the big episodes. Hollyoaks has been on terrific form for months now, it leaves the others in the dust.

It tends to dip and rise quite dramatically. Some times you get weeks and months of Oaks with little of intrigue or plot development, then they do a brilliant storyline that has your gripped. Silas-gate was a good,long-running storyline, as was JP/Craig, but there aren't very many of them. Tends to be a short sharp shock and then back to mediocrity.
I still love it, but I don't watch it daily when it's having a dip. You don't really need to. |

I've had a strange week with Hollyoaks this week as I just had to watch the crash and aftermath on 4OD/YouTube.
I got back into Hollyoaks a couple of weeks ago but have only been watching the omnibus on the weekend rather than committing myself to watching each night. The fervour and excitement on DS was too much though and I knew I would find out who had perished if I dind't knuckle down and watch the episodes 'out of sync'. While I think the bus crash is definitely a high point, I feel that the other characters and stories have sufficient strength to hold the show together post-crash. Lots of the characters were involved in the crash, but others are also not connected all that much. Hollyoaks definitely has a good feel about it at the moment ... |

OR just the opinion of somebody that is a fan of the shows and happens to hold their own personal opinion of both's current overall quality.
Oh the horror. Can you possibly stop those people with opinions spreading those opinions all over the place. Some of those people are fans of shows that are not on the list, you need to call the marines.
