He was fun, energetic, had so much potential and was completely a character in his own right. From the moment the Chryed story kicked off he was just labelled as a part of 'Chryed'

I always liked Christian as a character so no preference either way.

One thing I will say though is Christian is a character in his own right. I hope he wasn't axed simply because Marc Elliott was leaving because that is just wrong.

I am not going to pretend to understand the gays but they always looked odd together. After first being introduced to christian syed just didnt seem like the type he would go for. There was really no reason to put them together, santer was just hellbent on his cheap trick and playing up the gay muslim angle..

Syed only arrived about a month before they started their affair

I loved Christian from start to finish. His relationship with Syed gave him a chance to develop.

Christian - WONDERFUL.

I never said they were but obviously the dynamics in a heterosexual couple and a gay couple are different. Because even steviie wonder could see chryed were ill-conceived

I'm not sure the dynamics are that different!

I'd say the basics of love, trust, honesty, not cheating, being mean or domestically abusive would be the same for both gay or straight relationships.

they must be because anyone could see they werent compatible and certainly not the type of couple to represent the gays.

Is it necessary to refer to them as 'the gays'? I take it you don't refer to heterosexual couples in the show or in real life as 'the straights' do you? Really no need to use sexuality as a label as it has absolutely no bearing on what a relationship between two people is like.

Once they got together both characters stagnated.

Any major screentime they had which was rare just saw them go round in circles with the same old tedious arguments.

It's ironic that their supporters bleated on about how they are the show's most loving couple etc yet the evidence over the last 12 months or so would suggest different. Also Syed apparently cheated on Amira for the greater good (even though cheating can never be excused in my opinion) because of his oppressed sexuality, yet he then goes and cheats on Christian too under none of the pressure he was previously.

By the end I could no longer believe in them as a couple.

I preferred Christian before Syed. Never liked Syed as a character . I preferred Christan as part of the Beale family.

Christian's always been a character in his own right, I don't think that changed when Syed arrived.

Christian could have stayed a 1d party animal but Syed helped develop him into a 3d complex character.

John wanted to leave with Marc because he didn't want Christian to revert to being the character he was in the beginning - a fun but ultimately lonely character, just getting drunk with Roxy on a regular basis and it sounds like Lorraine Newman felt the same way. John didn't want Christian to go backwards and probably thought he'd never find the kind of intense love he shared with Syed again.

I remember there were positive sounds from the gay community when Christian arrived in the Square because he was considered a realistic portrayal of a mature gay man.
I certainly appreciated him as an independent character and an alternative voice in The Square.
Pairing him up with Syed effectively killed off the character because he was reduced to an insecure, masochistic wreck, all in the name of love and romance, just to please an immature female audience. Now that is what I call a very insidious form of homophobia.

John was sacked, he did not leave of his own accord.

So someone else who understood the original articles. Yup 'mutual decision after discussions with TPTB' would never be said if an actor outright quit.

Absolutely.
I was so annoyed last night that they got back together (though amused at Zainab seeing them!). Syed cheats left right and centre - romantically, financially... I wouldn't take yet another chance on him.

I also read between the lines that John was sacked.
The phrasing 'mutual decision' sounds too diplomatic.

Neither were particularly strong actors IMO but I liked them together during the original storyline in spite of the awful way in which they were treating Amira. I just didn't think they had what it takes to last beyond that original issue-based storyline and it seems I was right.

Towards the end there was nothing likeable about Syed whatsoever. He didn't even want to have anything to do with his own daughter. It was Christian who suggested they get a flat near to Yasmin, but for all we know they could be in America for the full 90 days of their visitor's visa, so does that make them bad parents like Amira taking a holiday (which was far more deserved) apparently made her a bad mum?

There is nothing set in stone to say they will even move nearer to Yasmin, it was all very vague and knowing Syed he won't be keen. As Yasmin's father, he should've been the one suggesting they get a flat close to her, but I don't think Syed took to fatherhood like a duck to water. I still remember him calling Qadim to come and take Amira and Yasmin away as though they were some sort of problem. Christian who tbf did the lion's share of caring for Yasmin is also a bit fickle, Amira promised him he could stay in touch with Yasmin whatever happened, yet he was planning to move to America permanently so he wouldn't have seen her very much from there.

The characters of 'Chryed' were ruined. I actually think Danny, a fellow devious conman, was more of a match for Syed in the end.

It's ironic that the exit of Chryed said nothing, that was rather fitting for Syed's character I thought.

I love Christian, especially when he had humorous scenes. Syed was a bore. I enjoyed their first year or so together but since then, yes, I think Syed ruined him.

Christian was brilliant before Syed. He laughed, had a good time and him and Roxy always made me laugh. Then Syed came - oh god he was so boring and whining all the time. He defo brought Christian down to his level. So pleased Syed has gone but he got forgiven so easily. I wanted Christian just to leave the Square with a clean break and Syed chasing after him to get him back.

Christian shouldn't have forgiven him.
