With people from his past coming after him just before Christmas and still no mention as to how Derek dies, I'm wondering could he fake his death? It does seem too soon since, "Who Killed Archie?" to have another Christmas who-dunnit and it does seem a bit too soon to kill him off, with no real build up. There would still be a funeral and also I think it would make a good storyline. Just a thought...

I wondered that too. Better still, he could frame Phil...

So long as he never returns
I'm happy what ever ends up happening to him (I'd prefer death)

Has it even been confirmed that Derek will be murdered?

If so, it will obviously be someone close to him. I think Max would/could do it, if pushed; I initially suspected Joey (which might explain his surprisingly tearful behaviour at Derek's funeral), but he comes back to Walford after hearing of the death, so it's impossible to be him—unless his time away is a red herring.

Alice or Lauren being the killer would only work, in my opinion, with Joey's involvement—either as an accomplice in the murder or walking in on the scene and helping to dump the body, cover up tracks, and so on.

I do not in a million years think it will be Alfie. Then again, he and Kat have been so destroyed as characters that it probably would not surprise me if he were made a murderer.

The only character I feel is more likely to do it is Max. I hope his secret is a corker to make it worth it all along!

There seems to be a lot of murderous minds affecting the Branning family: Stacey killed Archie; Tanya killed her dad; her ex-boyfriend and Stacey's brother Sean killed his, plus helped her to bury Max alive; Lauren tried to kill Max; Jack was shot and almost killed; Derek has had past involvement in deaths.

I don't think it will be Alfie either, I certainly hope not because he's one of my favourite characters. It hasn't been confirmed that Derek actually gets murdered and with people after him, I think him faking his death would be a great twist and would mean he could return someday. Killing him off is pointless.

Certainly would be better than ANOTHER tired old whodunnit murder, cob!

Though I think some of us Derek haters would want him to die, so he can never come back lol. But I actually wouldn't mindd if they did that, because at least it would be something different and a bit unexpected. Whodunnits are so over-done in soaps nowadays.

Indeed. I love who-dunnits but it's too soon after Archie in my opinion. Also, if he fakes his death, he can return someday. I'm sure that would annoy quite a few members on here, "Jamie Foreman Returns To Eastenders"

I want him dead and buried, I'd hate it if he faked his death because I'm sure EE would bring him back and I don't like the character.
A brutal bloody death for Derek, please.

Imagine, Derek - the next Nick Cotton. He shows up once or twice a decade, tells Carol and Alice he's a "reformed character" and after worming his way into their lives ends up getting into trouble and running away.

Give me Nick Cotton instead.

From the looks of it, Jamie Foreman never wants to return though . So you could end up with a Sean Slater or Stacey Slatter situation where the character is still alive in the big wide world, but no chance of returning to Walford.

Lol yeah, definitely would annoy many of us .

You make a good point about it being too soon for another whodunnit - that's the problem right there. Whodunnits have been so overdone ever since "Who Shot Phil?" - so much so that it's hard to be excited about the latest whodunnit with Derek. The only thing that's getting people excited is witnessing Derek's death and exit from the show lol.
Whodunnit should be event storylines that only happen three or four years (maybe longer), not every year!

Agreed. It's over kill if we get one every two/three years. The Who Killed Archie plot was great because he was a very popular and evil character and there was months of build up to his death. With Derek, I don't think he's actually done anything that would drive someone to murder him, yet anyway. If it was 2014 or 2015 then it would probably be a great plot, but it feels too soon to kill him off with no real build up to it. Who shot Phil was a classic.
