Film Locations

Have you visited any?

I'm lucky enough to have visited locations for Jaws, The Spy Who Loved Me, The Beach, Rosemary's Baby, Mission Impossible, Carlito's Way and a few more.
Next on my list is Halloween locations.

Just found this guy on YouTube who has visited loads of locations and makes videos with very clever editing techniques to blend thing together. Some great locations - Back to the Future, Christine, The Birds, The Fog.

I've been in UCL's Library where scenes from Inception were filmed and The Science Museum where scenes from Stormbreaker were filmed. But I wasn't at either because they were film locations, I was there for other reasons...

Aysgarth Falls in Wensleydale, Yorkshire and Hadrians Wall, Northumberland both in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves (Kevin Costner).

Scarborough in Dracula (Langella) was actually Mevagissey in Cornwall. In the distance sometimes you see St. Michael's Mount in some scenes which is further along the coast.

Dunkirk in Atonement was actually Redcar in Cleveland - the French signs and adverts were left up on buildings and the cinema for a time afterwards which caused a bit of confusion. Sometimes you can catch a bit of the power station in the background.

West Sands at St Andrews was where they filmed the famous running along a beach in slow motion bit in Chariots of Fire.

Dundee and Glasgow doubled for Moscow in the BBC film of An Englishman Abroad starring Alan Bates

I've toured several of the Lord of the Rings filming locations in New Zealand - well worth doing, it's a stunning country.

Also been in the theatre where they held the world premieres of the trilogy.

I walked past a film set in Vancouver once but have no idea what movie or TV show it was for - it was just an ordinary street blocked off, with a lot of yellow taxis so clearly it was doubling for New York.

It's a TV show, but I used to regularly walk through filming locations for Lewis - occupational hazard of being in Oxford And X-Men was partly filmed there too, I have friends who met James McAvoy - very jealous!

I've also seen film crews in London, though never managed to find out what was being filmed!

I've been there as well. I regularly see film crews in Edinburgh too, usually all the trailers are parked along Regent Road which is on my route into the city centre.

When I lived on Kew Green, near Richmond, a company came and made the WWII romance The End of the Affair. Caused quite a lot of disruption, aggravation and mess for a month or so, then when you saw the final film it could have been filmed anywhere, so carefully framed and lit was it to exclude anything that would place it. I'm sure they had their reasons for filming there, but it sure as hell didn't show up on the screen.

Regards

Mark

Riber Castle In Matlock which was used for Dead Mans Shoes, I stood in the stone hut where Padyy Considine's final confrontation takes place.
