Last week was simply far more professional in the comparing by Tess and Claudia & their respective roles.”

But it is the Bruce Forsyth show, without him the show would be nothing.

Bruceschin and Terry, are you Students who come on Forums to wind people up for a laugh.

All of Bruce's shows have always been the Bruce Forsyth Show. He has always been the Alpha Male, the man in charge. In fact, i was surprised that he ever agreed to share top billing, as he did when he joined Strictly. I was less surprised that he effectively took the show over though, and I wouldn't expect that to change now. It's just the way he is.

Notwithstanding the above, I have always been a fan of Bruce. He was brilliant in his day. He has definitely struggled this season though. But I still don't mind him. As well as the family warmth that he adds to the show, there is also an air of unpredictability which is somewhat amusing. I genuinely think that most people don't mind the cringeworthy moments anyway. You get a skewed perspective here of course, because those that do mind inevitably head to the forums to whinge about it.

I think this may be his last season though. No one can last forever. A lot of people here seem convinced that the show would be a lot better without him. The old saying goes "be careful what you wish for." We'll have to wait and see.

I think you will find a lot of people mind the cringeworthy moments! I dont watch Strictly for Cringworthyness and unpredictability, I watch to see good dancing (or otherwise!) presented slickly and efficiently so I can concentrate on the acts, not holding my breath to see if Bruce can still read the autocue! he had a right cheek having a go at Richard about no one laughing except him as every week Bruce's jokes are often met with bemused silence until he is forced to berate the audience into laughing and/or clapping with "well I thought it was funny", sorry Bruce but I did nt and make no apologies for it,

He gets away with it because a lot of the viewers remember the generation game and all his previous shows - for those of us who don't he is increasingly irritating, self-obsessed, unfunny and cheesy beyond the help of any fondue set. He's lucky that most of the studio audience is in the demographic that still has a soft spot for dear old Brucie, a younger crowd would slaughter him.

I'm 46, I remember his from the 70's shows, and he was an arrogant wotsit then! on the Generation game he was be routinely rude to contestants in the guise of "having a bit of fun with them". I certainly dont have a soft spot for him. (and regarding the demographic thing, I know a lot of younger people who watch Strictly so we are not all old dodderers.

From the producers standpoint I suspect Brucie is one of those perfomers that people love to hate (a good thing for bringing in viewers). For me it's like being exposed to one of those 70s sitcoms that dominate ITV3 from time to time (On the Buses springs to mind), women are dolly birds, gay men are all mincing nancy boys (Bruce actually did a joke about 'nancies' FFS) and northern working class people talk funny and should be made fun of - fortunately he seems to have stopped taking the piss out of Tess's accent. It's 2012 not 1972.

Fair enough, horses for courses and all that. I know that a lot of people do take the show very seriously. Personally I wouldn't like slick on a show like SCD. I think if the show loses it's gelastic edge and sense of fun, it will move in the direction of X-Factor. I wouldn't want a presenter like Dermot O'leary, who is slick and expert at the autocue, but adds no personality to the show (in my opinion).

When Bruce was absent last week we got a flavour of how funny and entertaining the dancers and judges are when they have some time to show their own personalities. Bruce shuts everybody else up when he's there. I think the rest of the cast can bring their own sense of family fun and enthusiasm to the show without having to be micro-managed. He seemed particularly out of place in a big arena. His act is suited to an old-fashioned stage show where the turns come on one at a time in a small space and do their bit. He seems all wrong for a fast-moving ensemble 3D spectacular. Move over Bruce, and let the others have more screen time.

Besides, presenters shouldn't do acts. That what the acts are for.

Oh I dont take it seriously I like the fun and spectacle of Strictly as much as you, when I said efficient I meant not hogging the stage for 10 minutes to tell bad jokes! I loved the way Tess and Claudia ran it because they had the sense of fun and made everyone feel happy, but did it in a way which did nt hold up the thing we are really there to see, i.e. the dancing sorry, Bruce may have been around since the Dinosaurs but they wiped the floor with him presenting wise.
(sorry if everyone thinks Im picking on Bruce in my posts, its just he spoils the show for me and I cant relax watching him).

Perhaps I should have said Brucie bent over backwards to help ..then again, maybe not.

Spring chicken!! My oldest rellies are about the same age as Bruce and they thought he was past it when they were kids. They all preferred Tess and Claudia.

I thought Claudia and Tess did well but it was only a one off and I think that this partnership would not fare so well over the longer term. I suspect that the BBC feel that too and I don't think Claudia will be the permanent replacement for Bruce.

I enjoyed last week without Bruce. I now tape and fast forward when he and his mistakes are on - over-rated. I think A Armstrong and Richard O would be great for the show.

Interesting that viewing figures last week when Bruce wasn't on peaked above 10m. I wonder what they will have gone down to again this week. Does the BBC need any more hints to send Bruce into retirement.

He's embarrassing to watch now, I have to record the programme and fast forward through his cringeworthy bits. Even the audience doesn't laugh at his "jokes" any more. They did enjoy booing him when he told them too though.

Yes, yes, yes. I think Claudia is really funny and likeable.

Yesterday the Mirror quoted BBC One Controller Danny Cohen only yesterday as saying: “Bruce is a living legend and an integral part of Strictly. He and only he will decide when it’s time to leave the ballroom” and that was nice to see.

New figures show the programme lost 100,000 viewers last night. Unfortunately, I doubt that's enough to get rid of Bruce.

Bruce must be feeling a bit fragile & vulnerable to need that sort of support.

Bruce clearly is not integral to SCD or they would not have any shows without him.

SCD is popular enough and strong in its concept that it doesn't need anything more than someone to introduce everyone at the right moment. Certainly doesn't need someone with an ego the size of Wembley to keep the ratings, or to deliver ill timed bad jokes & shuffle about like a constipated velociraptor.
