I can see how people can dislike someone on TV and certain behaviours and mannerisms can grate. However, I don't understand the obsession and energy that some people invest in it (I'm far too late back to dislike people in such a way).

IMO the opposite of like is dislike (disinterest is more of a neutral term). On a continuum, I see love, like, neither or disinterest, dislike and hate.
