Both of these could have been really "wow" dances in the studio.

My comment was meant to be about the scale tbh.

Moving from their training venues to the huge arena just didn't work, but you could see the dances would have been fine in the normal studio. I don't remember backing dancers being used before, so that threw me a bit at the start.

As a "one off" show, I thought it ticked all the boxes. Big, glossy and spectacular. I wouldn't want it every week, obviously. But once a year I think it works, and at least there were no really cringeworthy contestants this year.

Don't get me wrong, all I'm saying is it could have been produced better than it was for the viewers at home. I can imagine it was fantastic if you were there, but there's 10 million of us at home. The gap between pleasing the audience in the arena and those of us at home was far too big and the whole production came over to me as quite incompetent.

No, but before the show went to Blackpool or Wembley, it was moved to a smaller TV studio when CIN was on, so there are other possibilities. The problem now though is no money from the voting goes to CIN, so hosting a show at an external venue is a way of raising money for the charity. However, copying the SCD tour production set up for 10 million people at home is not the answer, unless they get the basics right.
I agree with
Sarah.OX about the size of the stage. In fact, why do they have to have such a large floor?

They could seat far more people if they made the floor size much smaller and more like Blackpool or the usual TV studio. That would raise even more money for CIN.
