Loving all the discussion about the Masoods and Nina's exit. I'm not watching any more but I wish I could say I'm surprised that its been as low-key as it has been. Can't help but feel that TPTB are playing politics with this. Its almost like they're pissed she's leaving which is stupid since they've obliterated any integrity her character's family had left anyway through the storyline they've chosen for the Masoods. Either that or they just don't care whether she's there or not in which case, going is definitely the right option. I'm excited about her future projects though, she's talented and she's got such great friends in the industry I'm sure she'll have her finger in lots of pies before long!

Now that my little rant's over - fic time. We're up to Chapter 9 now. Sorry I haven't been putting the updates all here but you can catch up now.

Marc's been seen on public transport twice over the last week or so - going somewhere on a plane a few days ago, a holiday? - one girl described him as "a beaut" and another as "Hot" not that I'm being shallow in any way. Fingers crossed he gets a new role soon.

Apart from Call the Midwife, there's not many dramas that are holding my attention right now, not even Eastenders. Looking forward to a new Eve Myles drama though, for any Torchwood viewers on here. She's playing a modern district nurse in a drama called Frankie in the spring.

Now that I don't need to save my first dibbs on the remote for EE I actually used them for Call The Midwife last night. At the end I was bawling my eyes out and my son just said to his dad..."Told her we should have watched Top Gear." It was good though wasn't it.

I never thought I'd stop watching EE as I have since Syed and Christian left, I thought I'd carry on even if only for the Masoods, but in truth it would have been just watching out of loyalty in the hopes of enjoying it again and for one thing life is too short and for another tptb at ee don't deserve that loyalty. They obviously don't give a monkeys about how viewers feel about characters they've grown to care about.

Has all your snow gone now? We still had some hanging about but our snowman is little more than a stump now. I'm thinking of saving a bit of him in an ice cube tray to preserve his dna for the future.

We had snow on the ground for several days but it all dissapeared within 24 hours yesterday thanks to rain, just as well as the pavements were getting really slippy.

I'm watching EE in a half-hearted way but I'm just not bothered about the Brannings or many other characters, just a select few including Ian and Denise. I'm finding it hard to watch Phil keep a mother from her own baby. Can't believe Zainab will be gone in just 2 weeks and I've got no idea whether Masood, Tamwar and AJ will be OK without her. I see there's been no mention of Chryed by any of the Masoods since they left, not even to confirm that they've moved close to Yasmin. In fact Mas and Zee haven't mentioned their wedding in recent weeks have they?

Call the Midwife has an equal mix of drama and up-lifting stories unlike EE.

I wondered if they'd been mentioned at all.

Here's an interesting interview with Nina...like the interviewer I never knew the Syed being gay story had been her idea. Thankyou Nina.

Hello! Thanks for the link.

It's sad that Zainab is being given such rubbish for her exit storyline, definitely a 'scribble on the back of an envelope' amount of thought given to it by the EE team. No change there then.

BIB: That isn't what Nina says though, and I'm sure we would have collectively known if that were true before now anyway. The interviewer suggests it but Nina doesn't actually confirm it, just says in reply is that she mentioned the issue of gay men in an article years ago. She doesn't mention any link with Syed being gay?

I'm sure dtc came up with the idea because of his own experience, and loosely based on his own story. That's certainly what he said in interviews way back when, at least!

Thanks for the link! Just saw it on DS and came to discuss it. So Nina suggested it? Good for her!

Nina is awesome but she's gone up even more in my estimation since learning that she suggested the Syed plot.

So not only do we have Marc, Johnny, DTC and Santer to thank but also her!

I remember Eastern Eye too. My dad used to buy it.

Who Me, I see you're right.

I only read DS's article which implied she suggested the idea, which I did find odd as I always thought it came from DTC.

It's nice to hear she already had some emotional connection with the story though and I think that played a role in why she was so terrific in the story. Nina is a sensational actress but it always helps if you understand the story and the message it's trying to send.

Hey ardchoile, Katrina and los.kav and thanks about the article.
I must admit reading it I didn't really question about the amount of DTC/Nina involvement it was after my bedtime and too late for serious thinking (especially since I'd just been sent this video and had been crying laughing especially at the little guy at the end kicking back by the river http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82GUjPConiE not even going to try and make that on topic...although that is a very dominating female )

But yes this bit...

NIna: "The other responsibility comes when you do storylines that affect people’s lives. The whole story about Syed being gay came from something real that happened in my life. I really wanted to explore this huge part of Muslim culture that exists but is not acknowledged."

Interviewer I had no idea that the Syed story was your idea…
Nina: "Well, years ago, I used to write for a paper called Eastern Eye. And I’d written an article about how gay men are ostracised by society and how hard it is for them to just be who they are. And I’m so glad EastEnders stepped up to the challenge and decided to do it because it brought up a lot of issues."

So it sounds to me like the germ of the idea came from her and DTC ran with it and developed the story? but I haven't read the interviews from him I don't think. But that's a far cry from Nina claiming credit for the whole storyline as I saw someone say on twitter...although they don't seem to have read the whole interview just the ds part. So yes Katrina big thanks to them all.

I did love this part where she says....

"Plus I thought Marc and Johnny Partridge [who played Syed’s partner Christian] did a terrific job in portraying the whole thing. They had so many fans waiting outside the studio who’d see me and run away. You could see them thinking: ‘Oh no, that bitch is walking this way. Quick, go in the other direction!’ It was hilarious. But they’d also sometimes bring gifts and say to me, “Oh, if you’re going to see Marc, can you give this to him, please? Tell him we love him.”

In the supermarket, I’d also get people saying, “Please be nice to Syed. What’s the matter with you?” And I’d have to reply: “It’s not me. It’s the character!”

I agree ardchoile from the sounds of it Nina's exit is disappointing but I can only tell from spoilers and comments. One bit sounded like it could be promising..where they go round the house sorting things out and discussing...I'd have loved some more real discussion like that true to both characters and their history for Syed and Christian rather than all the contrived nonsense. So if that's done well it could be good I suppose. I hope so for Nina and Nitin's sake at least.

BiB: back of a stamp. Seriously, 'she doesn't love you like I do' was an actual line from Ayesha tonight. Masood doesn't sleep with her, though, so let's be thankful for small mercies. Utterly ludicrous, though. I don't even understand the point of her if he doesn't cheat with her (though I'm ridiculously pleased )? Is it supposed to make Zainab realise there are problems there because, omg, he's attracted to a very pretty girl in a towel?! He should be shot at dawn. I genuinely don't understand what the fuss is about, he clearly doesn't actually have any strong feelings for her. Unless it's another Syed/Danny thing and he's supposed to but the writing's so dire you can't make it out.

I'm sure Nina and Nitin will make a silk purse out of a sow's ear as always, but they shouldn't have to. I remember when their performances made the best of already good material, not were the only reason their scenes worked. I have a feeling I've said this before about different actors. Odd that.

Masood and Zainab have had a tendency to paper over the cracks in their relationship rather than sort them out - like with Chryed to an extent.

Christian and Syed's love for one another papered over their issues during BF and Amira's return because they didn't talk to one another and similarly, we're never seen Mas and Zee talk after major events such as Yusef's death and Syed and Christian's wedding week - Zainab left for several weeks and then just came back and carried on where they left off. Masood has had tension after tension in his marriage for several years - being tempted by Jane because of Zainab's reaction to Syed being gay - so his sudden realisation that nothing wil change isn't totally unrealistic.

It's still a crap ending because Zainab's not being written that well and neither is Ayesha but if you squint your eyes, it just about makes sense - sort of. I think having Masood actually be tempted by Ayesha - the towel scene - is a bit WTF though.

I'm so glad Chryed are together and even better, that neither of them remotely fell in love with anyone else during their break ups. Alfie has already moved Roxy into the Vic ( rebound I'm sure ) Max will get closer to Kirsty and now Kat may get closer to Michael - just in time for Janine returning.

I loved the part in Nina's interview where she was stopped and asked where the Walford tube station is, and just went along with it. She's so funny.

Just wanted to comment on this a bit. Not that I know anything at all about the politics behind this stuff, but I can't help but agree with you. It really feels like they're pissed with her (just as it felt like they were pissed with Marc for daring to want to leave). There is actually a difference between an exit s/l being low-key aso, and it being written without basically any care or thought and on the back of a stamp as mt so aptly put it. Anyway, it sort of makes it easier to let go of Nina/Zainab, knowing it's the right thing for her(as it was for Marc and Johnny) and knowing she'll move on to fab stuff in the future!

Hello there
