I've watched a few eps here and there as I have to watch the very last ones with Zainab, obv., and have felt like I needed to know something about what's going on. I can safely tell you that you haven't really missed a thing not watching. :sleep:

There are few endings that I can think of that could be so ill-fitting for a character like Zainab tbh. And for an actress as talented as Nina. I am disappointed but I'm not surprised at all, really. It's just amazing, though, because I thought Christian and Syed's exit was terrible (controversial opinion, I know. Don't shoot me) and it's still better than Zainab's for me- it had some really standout episodes where Johnny and Marc got to really act. Zainab's only good episodes will be next week, probably.

It's not that I didn't want to watch but somehow I knew/felt that she wouldn't get the ending she deserved

I know about Chryed's exit as well, badly told as it was and unimaginative as it was, at least there was some kind of story there, and yes, at least there were a few scenes and eps where Marc and Johnny really got to work properly. What will Nina have, two-three scenes? Tops? Jesus... SO glad she'll be able to move on.

And yeah, thinking about it, the very worst thing is probably that I'm not surprised in the slightest. Or that tptb, while I KNEW it would be bad and had my expectations firmly at rock bottom, STILL managed to make my jaw drop at their treatment of her (and not in a good way :sleep

I thought it would be at least better than Christian and Syed's- Zainab was always treated much better than they were in terms of screentime and exposure, but it's arguably worse (I say 'arguably' because at least Masood isn't, idk, going against all pre-established characterisation and cheating with some guy... I mean girl he's known for about 3 weeks). I will never not be impressed by EE's ability to carve a new rock bottom.

Zainab's exit is terrible but it's not worse than Chryed's for me, simply because Syed was trashed as a character - he wasn't allowed to do anything right, nothing at all. Zainab won't come out of her exit storyline a hated character like Syed.

I agree that John and Marc were allowed to act though, whereas Nina is almost a supporting actress to the one playing Ayesha and of course the Brannings.

Tonight's EE made me want to stick pins in my eyes. I don't even know what's going on with Masood and Zainab- like, does he not want to be with her anymore? Does he want Ayesha? I genuinely don't know I know I'm not paying the most attention, but it's shitty writing. Gah. And I don't get why it's Zainab's exit and 90% of the focus is on Masood?! Next week'll probably be good but, God, the only way this could be more dire would be if Masood had cheated- but, then, at least something would have happened. But Masood and Zainab's marriage seems to be breaking down over a water feature from what I can gather? Wow.

On the plus side, Corrie has been fabulous tonight. I haven't enjoyed it so much in years.

I can't compare but yes nothing for me could be worse than trashing a character...it was never a happy ending for me...not at that price. (luckily I've taken up yoga so spending a bit of time in the mountain pose has calmed me enough to stop me saying what I really feel.)

And I've just seen before I ran out of the room because Silent Witness scares me a bit...that they do at least have a trailer for Zainab (and Masood..I saw Ayesha for the first time too) with a sentimental song. Come to think of it it might have been Amira's song for Syed. Anyway... I'd forgotten but actually managed to shock myself again when I looked at Syed and Christian's last episode ....because the sky blurb didn't even mention they were going...it was all about Tanya and Cora I think but not a single word about them.

It's debatable, I guess. No arguing that Christian and Syed's was terrible and Syed's characterisation, especially, was appalling, especially towards the very end, but I feel like this is worse because Zainab's been such a big character. I guess this is as ill-fitting for Zainab as Syed and Christian's was for them. I just feel like Christian and Syed's was better because there was at least some attempt to tell a story and Johnny and Marc got to do some amazing acting and amongst the dross, there were some wonderful scenes and episodes- for me, anyway. While Zainab's has been consistently rubbish. I don't think its worst has been quite as bad as Christian and Syed's worst, but it hasn't had any highs either. It's been nothing better than meh and Zainab's such a dynamic character. Mind, I complain about this- the characters getting the 'big' storylines aren't faring much better on the quality front, just the quantity. EE is so, so bad atm.

Ugh, why did 2009/10 have to be so good and make me care about these characters. Why?!

And their last ep clashed with Emmerdale. EE always did promote them so well.

Yeah, Zainab's exit seems to be more about Masood than Zainab, when both of them together should be the focus. And in the same way Syed's negative traits were exaggerated for his exit, I feel that Zee's 'snobby side' has been exaggerated for hers, to justify Masood deciding to end their relationship.

Neither character was allowed to have grown before they left and the only advantage Syed has over his mother is that he still has the love of his life with him and away from Walford the boys will be fine. Mind you, when Nitin decides to leave, it wouldn't surprise me if Mas and Zee reunite.

The more I read about upcoming (and ongoing) stories in EE, the happier I am that Chryed are out of there. I mean can you imagine?! I haven't watched EE since Christmas, which surprised me actually because I thought my resolve to not watch it would waver, or I'd at least miss it. But I don't. And I hear about Kat sleeping with Michael and Sharon kissing Phil and this Masood/Ayesha stuff and I'm like :sleep::sleep:....:sleep:

Don't think I've been on here in a couple of months now (busy with panto and then with work) but thought I'd pop in and say hi I saw Johnny's panto several times in December/January, which was amazing, and he was as lovely as ever when we stage doored to say hi And I had some more AMAZING times with Chryedians in Notts - this really is the best fandom ever!

Heard Johnny's interview on BBC Radio Manchester this morning and it was brilliant, lots of talk about his childhood, his dad, A Chorus Line, EE (basically saying he left because he knew Christian's character would be left redundant for several months while the writers/storyliners tried to come up with a new storyline for him, with Christian popping into the Vic every 3 weeks to ask Roxy for a G&T, and Johnny wasn't prepared to wait around for that while he still has many things he wants to do in his life) and I think there was a bit about same sex marriage, although I can't really remember because I was half asleep when I listened to it!

Now just waiting on some news of what Marc's doing next... hopefully the wait won't be too long!

Also I see talk of current EE in here... I stopped caring about the show when Chryed left and stopped watching when Derek died (I couldn't miss that after hating him for so long) but have seen the odd episode and spoilers pop up in my twitter feed occasionally... what a load of tosh! The current Zainab/Masood/Ayesha storyline is a disgrace, I wouldn't believe it was happening if I hadn't seen some of their scenes with my own eyes. I do miss Chryed but at the same time I'm glad they're gone because they're finally free!

Why did they have to show Zainab's leaving trailer straight after an emotional episode of Call the Midwife?

I really want to see that trailer, and I was watching Call the Midwife too. So annoying.

Must say, as beyond dreadful as Zainab's exit has been, I think next week is going to be really good, as ridiculous as the whole premise of it is. The writers are promising anyway. That said, I don't think I can be doing with watching entire eps of EE anymore because it's so monstrously dull and think I'll be skipping to the 'good bits' on iPlayer for the rest of the week, except maybe Friday.

It's surreal. I know that's sad but, lbr, I'm long past caring about that. :sleep: But it properly feels like the end of an era in a way Christian and Syed leaving didn't. Because I feel like Christian, Syed and Zainab pretty much were the Masoods in terms of drama/storylines, so with all three of them gone, there's not much left. Obviously I don't feel as strongly about Zainab as I did Chryed but I still adore her, and the storyline that got me hooked wouldn't have been half as amazing without her, and Nina's incredible acting.

I hope so too. But she'll probably go and see Shabnam, given that Christian and Syed appear to no longer exist as far as EE goes

Yeah, they really were the core of the drama for most of the time! I think with a lesser actress I would have hated Zainab but Nina's so darn good that even when Zainab was at her worst I could still care and empathise with her! Really going to miss her!

Ha yeah I bet she'll go and see Shabnam too. Makes perfect sense for Zainab to take Kamil thousands of miles away from his father, to a country where she was nearly burned alive and taken back to by her psycho ex...well makes sense to tptb I imagine :sleep: Would be nice to have just one Chryed mention from her before she leaves but I won't hold my breath!

Well, Pete's writing her penultimate episode and the one before, so I'd assume there'll be some mentions there. Even if he wasn't writing, I'd assume Syed would have to come up, he's a huuuge part of Zainab and Masood's relationship troubles and always has been. I mean, I'm not expecting the whole thing to revolve around him but it'd be ridiculous if he wasn't mentioned because he caused so much friction between them. If they could somehow squeeze a Christian mention in there too, I'd be thrilled. /sad sad saddo

Haha, obvs. I mean, it's not like it'd be totally perfect- she totally adores Syed, is now highly fond of Christian, it'd be far enough away from Masood that she didn't keep bumping into him but close enough he could still see Kamil, and she'd get to see her granddaughter or anything... The fic potential would be great, finally getting shot of Christian's parents and then Zainab rocks up. EE should do a spinoff, it'd be way more interesting than anything that's going on currently. Zainab should've been killed off though, end of.

Gosh Zainab dying could have been really good and emotional....but not sure how they would have explained away Chryed not being there?! Table shopping? :sleep: It would have broken my heart a little though, not only because I love Zainab but because somewhere out there in fiction land Syed would be completely and utterly heartbroken

I've only been watching because my mother does. Normally I put my headphones in, but since it's Zainab's swan song I've really been trying to watch. Have walked out of the room in disgust more than once.

Too devastated to come? Idk, I can't imagine anything that would believably keep them away (remember when Tanya dropped the kids off at Bradley's funeral and then waited outside? I love soaps) Though, yeah, EE would probably be like 'oh, soz, they can't come because Syed has an urgent haircut appointment and Christian's too busy trying to talk him out of it'. :sleep:

Oh, yeah, it'd have been crushing, because as loathsome as Zainab can be, I still love her. But it would've been so much more fitting for her I just don't understand why they're giving her such a dullll exit. As if Zainab would ever leave Masood permanently. And over nothing? They've gotten through so much and they just... randomly break up now? All righty then. I'm sure it'll be a whole 'straw that breaks the camel's back' thing, but I don't really believe that, meh. Whatever, I'll just imagine them getting back together at some point down the line.

Yeah it really does feel totally nonsensical..they've been to hell and back....loved each other through it all...then they just....decide to call it a day...despite being madly in love...! Whenever Nitin decides to leave I really hope that either Nina comes back for a few eps and Masood and Zainab reconcile or they have Masood leave to be with Zainab...like Chryed, they're end game!
