I think it has sort of mixed reviews so far. It seems an ambitious project from PTA. Would you expect anything less?
It is being shown in 70 mm in London's Odeon West End cinema. Only 70 mm showing in the UK(so far anyway). |

Despite almost universally outstanding reviews, it doesn't look as if it's even going to break $16 million in the US, so it's hardly a "hit," but hey, a drama about the beginnings of Scientology starring Philip Seymour Hoffman & Joaquin Phoenix always had box office poison written all over it...

Saw it yesterday evening. I love PTA but sometimes wish he would return to a more simplistic narrative like in Boogie Nights.
Having said that I thought parts of the film (particularly JPs first 'session') were profoundly moving and Phillip Seymour Hoffman was brilliant. I loved his singing scenes! |

I wasn't such a fan of The Master. Far too ambiguous I think, made it all rather frustrating.
My blog thoughts here if anyone fancies a read: http://www.thisisafilmblog.com/the-master-2012/ |

I was sooo keen to see this, and now that I have, I can't help feeling like I've been completely duped.
![]() Joaquin Pheonix and Philip Seymour Hoffman are both outstanding, but are sadly within a film that is very tedious and has no conclusion. What a let down. |

I watched it this morning and I found it so tedious and very boring and bearing in mind it was a film I had been wanting to see for absolute ages, so i gave it a fair shot.
