Michael Emerson's Joker laugh (from the preview of part 2) is creepy as hell.

Watched the bluray last night, really enjoyed it.

When I watched Year One a few weeks ago I didn't find it all that engaging, I also thought it lacked the "intimacy" of the comic. So, based on that I wasn't sure how The Dark Knight Returns would translate. Thankfully I really enjoyed it, really looking forward to Part 2.

It's disappointing that Kevin Conroy has only been given a few of the DC direct animated movies in my opinion he should be doing them all. I will seriously be annoyed if Bruce Timm and Andrea Romano don't Use Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill in a Killing Joke animated film.

It's the same people who cast BTAS Bruce Timm and Andrea Romano.

I really enjoyed Year One, felt it transferred to animation really well. Especially enjoyed Brian Cranston as Gordon, good choice for a Gordon-centric tale.

The Dark Knight Returns Pt1 - I felt that this suffered more in translation to animation. Don't get me wrong, I quite enjoyed Peter Weller's voice work for the older Batman, but Miller's masterpiece is full of internal dialogue which the director had to shoe-horn in to the script. Maybe if you haven't read the comic it's less noticeable.

Also the plot device of using the media to push the story along - whilst fresh back then, does seem a little clichιd now as it's been long overdone. Not Miller's fault he was ahead of the curve tho.

It's still good though, these are minor quibbles really, and the adaptation also surprised me in that the material was interpreted just a little bit lighter in tone than my own reading of the graphic novel.

Seriously gagging on the second installment.

Well Part 2 was good too. A joy to see this story animated, and treated with the respect it deserved.

Wonder if they will do a boxset or just a case of waiting for the 2nd part to hit blu-ray here in the UK.

I saw this over the weekend and thought it was great. I had not read the comic but was aware of it and the story too, meaning I cannot compare the film and the comic. So from this movie-only perspective Part 1 and Part 2 were a joy to watch.

Que: p2 (though maybe it was in p1) - do we know why
Spoiler
Joker dressed Selina up as Wonder Woman and not Catwoman ? - I guess it could simply be Joker being Joker but is there something I'm missing - have wondered this ever since I read the trade paperback those many-many years ago.

(probably not necessary to spoiler the above but I've done it now.)

I think there are a few theories.

Spoiler
Firstly it could of been to torment Batman, since superheroes had been banned/expelled from the planet which would of included his good friend Diana (Wonder Woman).

Also it could of been to provoke Batman. Wonder Woman was a super hero and had super powers and could fight with the best of them, Catwoman had no powers at all other than her agility which in her now aged and fuller form would of meant she was powerless, perhaps this was Jokers way of saying just because you have a costume it doesn't make you any younger.

Lastly Selena Kyle was running an escort service which probably catered to every mans fantasy, including female superheroes, Joker dressed her up because of his own fantasy of Selena or Wonder Woman. I think in the comic it states she was tied up with cold coloured rope which made me think of WW's lasso.

Having watched this again the other night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoZLPwRCjcQ from the old Batman TAS, I must admit I prefer Michael Ironside's voice as Batman to Peter Weller's.

hmmmm, methinks I need to have a ponder & reread the book - but at least we're certain that it wasn't a big mistake on Frank Millars and/or the Artist part, them thinking Selina WAS Wonder Woman.... phew!!

Watched part 2 recently I really enjoyed. My only gripe is that Michael Emerson sounded a bit too much like Roger the alien from American Dad.
