My Twitter feed seems to suggest that there's an outage. That'll be three in recent weeks.

iMessage isn't a network thing. It would be like if WhatsApp were down.

I don't think it'll be network dependent.

You can force that by switching iMessage off in settings.

Mine's been working fine, so it definitely doesn't seem to be affecting everyone.

It'll still revert to SMS as normal.

Thats a bad way to do it.

If it does this anyway, then i dont know what the fuss is all about. I never even noticed i was using it.

Whats annoyed me is being able to disable it is a pain in the arse, when you leave the iOS ecosystem!

We are on 02 (3 of us) and texts got stuck and also noticed that when a text did finally arrive it was green not the usual blue as in imessage. When my son sent one to me it was blue. Seems like there is some kind of problem.

You should only need to turn it off before wiping the phone and that's that.

If that doesn't work, or you want to be extra sure anyway, all you need to do is use the Apple website to un-register the iPhone you are getting rid of. Did it myself a few weeks ago.
