I have a DVD player that I want to sell. What's a fair price? Does it depend on formats supported, output types, multiregion capability? Or is age and condition more important?

It cost me about £180 when I bought it a couple of years ago but now I see new models for around £30+.

It's not so much how much you paid for it 2 years ago but how much it would cost you to buy one now - if you can still buy the same model. Reckon to get no more than 50% of today's 'new' price - if it's in pristine condition, less if not. If you can't buy one now then look at how much a similar model from the same manufacturer would cost you and use that as a guide price.

I agree with #2.

50% if you have the original box, manuals, cables, etc.
40% if some bits are missing, but still in mint condition
30% if showing signs of wear & tear

If it is a well-respected model, you could get a bit more.

Have a look on ebay to see what the particular model is going for.

Most people just want a basic DVD Player, and they can buy them new for less than £50. So unless, your older DVD Player has some "must have" function that cant be found on todays cheaper DVD Players, I would suggest that wont get much for it.

Thanks for the guidance. I mentioned the original price merely to try and give people an idea of functionality it has, I appreciate it has no bearing on resale price with technology moving so fast.

It's an LG 3550e, remote hacked to be multi-region and play VCD. Been looking on ebay, never seen it. It's baby brother the 3200 fetches about £20.

Class 1 laser, on board Dolby and 5.1, plus optical and coax audio output, twin SCART, composite and S-Video output, Pal/NTSC compatible. I have manuals and the original box.

I ws thinking of a reserve on ebay of £30, is that reasonable, or too low/high?

I'm still not sure if there is much of a market for second hand DVD Players these days .. there used to be.

OK, so most of the cheap £30 DVD Players have no scart cables, are only 2.1 etc. etc. but you can find DVD Players for £39 that feature integrated 5.1 decoders, SCART and composite cables, multi-region from the box, slim quite classy design and aren't to plasticy .. and best of all, something which DVD Players didn't feature a few years ago, Progressive Scan.

Ok, so I had one in mind when I said all that, it's proved useful for Christmas pressies for kids
