I watched the live results tonight, and heard various comments from the judges about the public choosing poor singers, the bottom two being excellent vocalists etc...

I couldn't help but think the show they were thinking of was "The Voice", and it wasn't great.

The X Factor should be about just that. Whilst Rylan can't sing brilliantly, there is something about him that people clearly want to see more of.

If it was all about technical ability, we'd have no Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, Neil Tennant, Paul Heaton. We'd just have Whitney, Mariah Carey and Susan Boyle. What a world we'd live in, eh?
