I still cant help it, the traditional music (albeit given a makeover) still produce a better routine, and deliver a more exciting performance on the day (eg. Michaels re-birth in ballroom) than any of the, so called ,current chart songs, with very few exceptons. Look at Michael Buble, for example, they work perfectly for waltz foxtrot quickstep etc I dont think we would get bored since there are thousands to choose from, and they could still introduce 'off the wall' renditions for charlestons salsas etc. which on the whole would be easier to tolerate!!! Maybe its just me!

Modern picks are good when they work. It's a bit hit and miss though. I liked Disturbia, White Wedding, Rumour Has It for Tango picks for example so not all bad. Others may disagree of course...

What I really don't like is when they're all like "Hey guys, this Queen song title makes for a good pun, and everyone loves Queen, so let's use it despite it not fitting the dance whatsoever! Yay!"

I don't recall anyone getting good marks when dancing to Queen. I'm sure someone can correct me if that's incorrect. Their songs don't translate well to Latin/ballroom IMO.

To anyone who knows the first thing about ballroom dancing the choice of music has been appalling in 90% of the dances. Any band playing this rubbish at a social dance would be thrown off the stage.
It's amazing - - if someone did a quickstep to 'Abide with me' the judges wouldn't dare make a comment! Their pay-cheque is much more important than their principles.
What a farce.

The music contributes so much to the dance style and surely must be a great help for the celebrities, if only to give them a definite rhythm or beat to follow. There have been some dreadful music choices this year; it's been painful watching some of the couples straining to fit the movements to the song and I agree, Queen is never a good choice! Some bands and songwriters just aren't made for dancing to.

(And yes, I DO like Freddy Mercury and Queen's music!)

One area where the producers need to really improve.

While I do like traditional music or golden oldies to be used I actually prefer it when modern music is used as long as it suits the dance. One of my favourite routines this series was the tango by Vincent and Dani to 'Rumour has it' by Adele, the song was on my wish list to be used this series and is part of the reason why I love that routine.

If only retro music was used then the show wouldn't attract a younger audience - there needs to be a balance of old and modern to appeal to everyone.

One thing I think they do need to use more of is authentic Latin music.

I'm not overly keen on the traditional Waltz music they play at competitions. I find it not very uplifting. But I do like traditional big band music, with a good swing, for Foxtrot and Quickstep. I find modern music tends to have a heavy beat for Quickstep. I like proper Tango music, although it doesn't have to be traditional. There is lots of contemporary Tango. There is quite a difference in what is suitable for the more melodramatic ballroom tango and the AT though. I prefer a proper Viennese Waltz.

Latin dances, I'm generally less traditional, although I do prefer a more traditional Paso

(Don't agree 100% about Queen. "Crazy little thing called love" is a good jive.)

Bicycle Race was released in 1978. It is retro.

Pasha Kovalev used for his quicksteps:
Sing Sing Sing - Louis Prima 1936 - real swing song
Halelulah Come On Get Happy - from a 1950 musical
Last year
His Pasha Doble used Malaguena - Ernesto Lecuona
and Argentine Tango,Una Musica Brutal - Gotan Project

Is that the sort of thing you were thinking of?

I didn't dispute which tracks were retro I was saying a mixture of modern and retro music should be used in the show - if it was only one or the other then the show wouldn't attract the wider audience.
